Book Description

October 1, 1983
Trigger Ross stood in the wheelhouse of the Sparta as the old steamer made her way through the Bering Sea. Suddenly he jolted, as if shocked by electricity. It couldn't be! Three Zeros, meatballs and all, were flying toward him over the icy seas. Then they began their strafing run. It was December 1, 1983. On board the Yonaga, the largest aircraft carrier in His Imperial Majesty's navy, the ancient crew laughed with glee. Finally free of the ice cave which had both imprisoned and preserved them, the Japanese officers counted the Sparta as their first kill as they prepared to follow orders given to them in 1942 - attack Pearl Harbor! In true samurai spirit, the Japanese did not believe the radio transmissions they had monitored. The Emperor would never surrender, the war was still going on. And Pearl Harbor lay as unprepared today as it did on the first Day of Infamy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and interesting reading for military historians, December 10, 2011

I read this almost 20 years ago and remember this as a great book to read and ask yourself "what if"? The overall plot is about a "lost" carrier that was supposed to attack Pearl Harbor with the rest of the Japanese Fleet on December 7, 1941. Somehow the "Yongaga" ends up being trapped in an iceberg. 30 plus years later it is discovered by a team of American scientists and they discover that most of the crew is alive as well. Eventually, the Yonaga carries out its mission to attack Pearl Harbor, even when the Japanese sailors discover that Japan surrendered in 1945.
This is a fun book to read. Is it really FAR fetched? Of course it is! But it is still entertaining to read and get caught up in the "alternate history" of it all. A great read for a rainy afternoon. The rest of the series is fun to read as well, even though it is very far fetched. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Alternative History, October 29, 2006

This review is from: The Seventh Carrier (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is the first in a very interesting twist on both history and a speculative view on what could have happened. A second strike on Pearl Harbor forty years after the first one by a group of determined Japanese holdouts from the Second World War. Altogether an interesting look at the mindset of the Japanese prior to and during the war. Also an eye-opening look at the arrogant attitude that still prevails in alot of the current military establishment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Literary Heroin...., September 26, 2005

I have read the entire 7th. Carrier serries, and this review covers all of them. Mr. Albano's history is not alway on the money, but for those psycotic military history afficianados out there, this serries was addictive. Interesting concept, I would love to hear from the author someday.
