Dishwashing is a pleasantly fragrant experience when you use natural dish liquid that contains essential oils and botanical extracts, such as French lavender harvested by co-op farmers in the foothills of the Alps, or handpicked citrus fruit from sun-bathed southern Italy. This dish soap is also available in a scent-free, hypoallergenic Free & Clear formula for sensitive skin.

If every household in the U.S. replaced one bottle of 25 oz., petroleum-based dishwashing liquid with our plant-derived natural dish liquid, we could save 125,000 barrels of oil!

This cleans well and the lavender scent is very light - not at all overpowering like some other soaps.

I have used 7th Generation's products for years.

I peeled off the label of this dish soap when I got home,
and saw it had SLS.
I did not like that I had to peel off
the label to see the ingredients.

I did a lot of research on SLS.
I found it is supposedly
not as evil as we have been led to believe,
so I decided not to take it back to the store.

Well, evil or not, my hands are always supple and
not dry or cracked in any way.
Ever since I started using this soap, my hands have
dried up, and look like the hands of a
dessicated mummy just out of the pyramid.
Then they started to crack and bleed, and that is when I decided
to go back to my other earth friendly dish soap, and within one day,
my hands began recover.

I do dishes a lot because I prepare all my food myself,
so, I suppose if you rarely do dishes or wear gloves, you may be ok.
It DOES clean well and makes miles of suds, but this simply
doesn't even warrant a star after the health of my hands was
put in jeopardy.

I like Seventh Generation,
they are not perfect,
at least they are trying to respect the earth,
so I look forward to them improving this product.

Take care of your wondrous self and have a beautiful day!

This used to be an excellent product. It was gentle and plant-based. The formula was changed. It is now harsh on the skin. It caused my hands to crack open and bleed and a rash spread up my arms. I notified the company about this, but got the usual "song and dance". Also, they changed the bottle cap. Now it clogs up with some kind of hard stuff which I couldn't even dig out.

The basis of my one star rating is not related to the effectiveness of this product, but due to the misleading nature of the description provided here. Namely I take issue with the characterization in the product listing here on Amazon (all caps added for emphasis):

Seventh Generation dish liquid is non-toxic, free of fragrances and dyes, dish detergent MADE OF NATURAL PRODUCTS cleans [sic] the dirtiest dishes while being SAFE FOR EVERYONE. It DOESN'T CONTAIN ARTIFICIAL or petroleum-based ingredients. It is HYPO-ALLERGENIC and not tested on animals, it is a biodegradable product. Tough on grease, gentle on hands, safe for septic and greywater systems.

The ingredients (which are not listed by Amazon, but are found on Seventh Generation's site (link below), include "methylisothiazolinone and benzisothiazolinone (synthetic preservatives)" - which by SG's only labeling indicates they are SYNTHETIC and therefore NOT NATURAL. Seems pretty clear to me..
[...]

Now let's be clear, many companies exploit the fact that there are NO STANDARDS OR REGULATION whatsoever for labeling products as "natural" or "all-natural"; likewise, I don't believe there are any standards for "hypo-allergenic" or if there are they are pretty lame. But I expect a company like Seventh Generation to hold itself to a higher standard than Proctor and Gamble in this regard to the extent that their brand message is all about providing safe and green products - and if you are going to make the claim your products are "SAFE FOR EVERYONE" then you should mean it.

Methylisothiazolinone and benzisothiazolinone may not be a huge concern for some or even many people, but that doesn't make them "natural" by any common sense definition.

Why does this soap contain SLS? I've been buying this for a while now and I finally read the ingredients, yea I know, kinda late on that. Why would I go out of my way to buy this supposed plant based good for you good for the earth soap when it has SLS? Why would you? Just wondering.

I wanted to like this soap but I will not be purchasing again! Its extremely difficult to get grease out of dishes, etc. The worse part is this soap dries your hands extremely! I will have to use gloves all the time to keep using this. Did not work for me.

Basic - simple - no perfumes - no fragrance and no adverse reactions for folks like me who are sensitive - Gentle enough to use as hand or body soap, even shampoo in a pinch, but still strong enough for dish washing. Highly recommended.

This stuff is horrible! If it's supposed to be "earth friendly, it certainly isn't people friendly! Ever since they changed their formula, I can't use it without wearing rubber gloves, otherwise I get terrible cracked, bleeding skin and my nails start to break. It completely strips all the oil out of your skin, leaving it extremely dry.

My experience is the same as this one posted...

I didnt buy this on amazon because its cheaper in my local store but I must leave a review on here for other people to know about this. This product is very harsh on your hands, all three adults in my houshold had extremely dry, rough and cracking hands after a week of using this product and we only do a few dishes and bottles once a day. I dont know what they put in this product but it is way too harsh.

I do use other7th generation products like their cleaning spray, wipes and laundry detergent and I like all of those but not this
