Editorial Reviews

Review

"A splendid job. Mr. Hanson is a specialist in his field who is also a superior writer with a pronounced streak of poetry, especially when he is hymning praise to the Western wilderness. He not only knows computers; he also understands people and their motives, their drives, their pettiness and their yearnings." --New York Times Book Review

"Hanson sustains the resulting tensions nicely; he has written an old-fashioned page turned with an ultra-modern setting. As a bonus, the book has politically, even morally instructive, dimensions. Though SEEK is more insidious than the present melange of computer networks, the two-edged danger it poses is already real enough to warrant vigilance: The network is susceptible not only to terrorist penetration but to government snooping. In this novel, the snoop is the National Security Agency, one of SEEK's patrons. Cassidy's concomitant dilemma--whether to tune out and turn on or doggedly fight Big Brother from within the system--is intelligently handled."--San Francisco Chronicle
