5.0 out of 5 stars Saber And Cannons For These Guys, May 20, 2010
By
This review is from: The Seventh Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteer Cavalry Its Record, Reminiscences and Roster: The Saber Regiment (Hardcover)
This was the saber regiment. These guys used cold steel to kill the rebels. Why do you ask. Well because at first they were armed with outdated belgian rifles that they called "horse cannons," and which were not really suited for use on horseback. So, these men were forced to fight with their sabers. They developed great skill with the cold steel and served as a very efficient fighting force the Union in the western theater. All during the civil war, these men served at the very front of combat in the western theater. This is all retold with great skill and emotion and serves to illustrate the great sincerity of those who fought with each other. Get it and enjoy!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book On A Remarkable Federal Regiment, March 3, 2008

This review is from: The Seventh Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteer Cavalry Its Record, Reminiscences and Roster: The Saber Regiment (Hardcover)
I've read many regimental history books, but in my opinion, "The Saber Regiment" ranks as one of the very best that I've read. This book covers the history of the regiment from the formation through their battles, and a reader can easily follow the flow of the action as the regiment charges their Confederate adversaries. In all, this is an excellent book!
