A Forgotten Gem of an Album,
By Russell H. Paris (Oak Park, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Severin Browne (Audio CD)
Severin Browne's debut album on the Motown Label is a forgotten gem of the 70s singer-songwriter era. The album contains ten self-written songs dating from 1971 to 1973 and was reviewed quite favorably by critics around the world. Unfortunately, they also compared Severin, not surprisingly, to his more famous brother Jackson, which was unfair since their music isn't all that similar. Severin's way with lyrics and melodies has always been wonderful and although a touch dated, many of the songs on this album hold up quite well today. No real comparison to his outstanding 1995 CD From The Edge of the World, but a nice look back and some real hidden gems within.
