I had read the reviews on this wine rack before purchasing. They discussed the torque needed from your drill, the hex key bit that comes with rack and the issues with bottle spacing/size. A quick summary is that the quality is great and the assembly is very manageable. However, the spacing for each bottle has missed the mark and missed the opportunity to make this a really good buy because it limits the maximum diameter of a bottle you can store before loosing slots on the rack, and a lot of wines fall into the category of being too big.
The assembly issues essentially seem consistent with what was written by others:
- Torque required may overwhelm a standard cordless screw driver
- The hex key bit supplied for the drill/cordless screwdriver is unable to meet the strength needed for torquing down the 32 screws. A standard Allen wrench is supplied and stands up to the test quite well
These issues can be worked around and are not worth overlooking this item for.
The bottle diameter is important though. I should have done some simple math on this one and save myself some time. As it turns out, nearly half of the bottles that I have are larger than what this rack can handle with out leaving slots open. The larger bottles come from a variety of regions, CA, France, Italy, etc. and are fairly common. I didn't have enough small desert wines to fill the gaps and really would not want to organize things that way.
So I decided to get the numbers.
7.5cm (2.95inch) bottle works great.
8.0cm (3.15inch) bottle requires leaving an open space or allowing bottles to rest on each other
7.75cm seems to be the maximum diameter of a bottle before they no longer fit.
In the end I will probably return because I have lost too many spaces. I really regret this because a slight adjustment to the spacing of each slot would have made this a perfect buy.

I looked extensively for a reasonably priced rack to put in our wine cellar (aka the pantry). Width and height were my first considerations (after price), followed by capacity. This fit the space and fit the budget.
The rack was very easy to assemble. All the parts were there including those for stacking another rack on top. It's not beautiful, but the design does have a kind of elegant simplicity. It's plenty nice enough for the pantry floor!
Only shortcoming: Some of the wines we buy (Sterling comes to mind for one) are in bottles with slighly larger diameter than standard. They don't fit side by side unless you allow the center of three to "ride" on the two adjacent bottles. Probably, had they made this a 36-bottle rack instead of 40, the additional width per bottle would have made it perfect.
Still a good value, though.

I purchased two and stacked them. I put large format bottles on the top. A fifth star would have been awarded if they had a couple of rows that could accommodate slightly larger bottles so that you could loose 1 bottle capacity in that row instead of 3. You just need a little more space for those.
That said, it's the best thing I could find out there and I'm very happy with it. It was very easy to assemble, especially with my screw gun. They included an allen bit for a drill.

We love this unit. It holds a lot of wine, but it does not hold the larger bottles two in a row or more. If you store a larger bottle you have to skip in slot. Read more
