This Motor is good! However... If you buy an inflatable Sevylor boat (Which work great) and plan to use this motor for cruising around, you will be disappointed. On "fast" speed, the motor travels at about the pace of a slow average walk. If you are out using this motor for fishing, this is however about the right pace. 3.0 out of 5 stars Sevylor trolling motor
I find my new Sevylor 12 lbs. thrust motor is a good value for what I paid. A good performer on my 6' rubber raft with two adults and some gear. It's really light weight so packing into backcountry is possible.

One advantage of this motor is it only draws a maximum of 12 amps at the fastest pace. It will run the small accessory batter (another option to buy) for a solid 45 minutes. I bought a Large Everlast battery, which will be able to run the motor for SIX HOURS! For the Price... I would advise spending a little more cash and buying a trolling motor with 24lbs thrust or more

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD KAYAK MOTOR, July 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sevylor® 12V / 12 lb. Thrust Trolling Motor (Misc.)
I PICKED UP THIS MOTOR USED FOR NEXT TO NOTHING.I HAVE IT MOUNTED AS A BOW DRIVE ON A 9 FOOT KAYAK WITH A REAR RUDDER SYSTEM.THE KAYAK WEIGHS ABOUT 48 LBS.I HAVE IT CONNECTED TO AN OLD 365 CCA LAWNMOWER BATTERY.ON LOW IT DOES ABOUT 1 KNOT IN CALM WATER.ON HIGH MAYBE 2 KNOTS OR A LITTLE LESS.I HOPE TO GET A SMALL U1 DEEP CYCLE BATTERY SOON FOR MORE TESTING.WITH MY CURRENT OLD(5 YEARS) BATTERY I ONLY HAVE A RANGE OF LESS THAN 2 MILES.IN THEORY, WITH A 35 AH DEEP CYCLE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPAND THAT TO 6-7 MILES.FOR THE LOW PRICE YOU CANT COMPLAIN.I ONLY USE IT IN SALTWATER.SUSPECT THE SWITCHES AND CLAMPS MAY NEED UPGRADING SOON.

4.0 out of 5 stars for the money, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Sevylor® 12V / 12 lb. Thrust Trolling Motor (Misc.)
For the money you can't beat it. I have an old heavy great canadian canoe and made some clamps to clamp it on the back of the boat. It pushes it fine. Slow i wish it was slightly fast but for the money it gets my wife and my self around the lake. I perchased an other one last week. this summer i will have duel out boards on my canoe LOL I am hoping for a little more top end. But that may be limited by the r.p.m. of the motor. But at the least i will double my thrust. I'll hook a small bit of linkage across the steering handle to steer them in sterio. It is still cheeper then buying a 24 lb thrust motor and i get to joke about duel out boards on a canoe. I know you can't take the country out of the boy

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok value but cheap construction, August 23, 2008
This review is from: Sevylor® 12V / 12 lb. Thrust Trolling Motor (Misc.)
I've had one of these for about 5 years. Cheap is the word here.

Mine had to have both rocker switches replaced early on (the plastic inside broke so they were "floppy" - unsafe) and the cap on the front of the motor/propeller assembly developed cracks and leaks, it seems it may shrink a little over time and with exposure to sun/water. The waterlogged motor still worked though it was a little slower than before. Unfortunately it looks like there's no easy route to buying replacement parts for it and re-sealing the cracked cap is not likely to be easy.

As far as functionality goes it is very handy to put around on the inflatable, you'll need at least 15Ah of battery per hour of continuous use on a 3-person inflatable. Of course you should at least double that if you want your battery to last.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, May 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sevylor® 12V / 12 lb. Thrust Trolling Motor (Misc.)
A lot trickier to control than indicated in the manufacturer product review. Attachment to the boat, a Sevylor Super Caravelle, was a fiddly and not teriibly secure. Instructional diagrams could have been a lot bigger to see the small details more clearly. With the attached battery (12 Volts/7 Ah) it seems a little underpowered and we neede dot use the oars on the return leg of a short trip. Overall a little dissapointing.
