About Sevylor
In 1948 in Vitry, a small suburb of Paris, France, Berco Grimbert created an electronics company called Societe Electronique de Vitry, or SEVY for short. Soon, a friend of Grimbert's from New York commissioned SEVY to produce high frequency welding machines capable of fusing a new material called PVC (poly vinyl chloride). SEVY's machines worked very well and the American friend developed a very successful business manufacturing swimming pool related products. He then taught SEVY how to work with PVC.

One of the first PVC products SEVY produced was inflatable bathtub called Dou Dou. It was an instant hit in postwar France--mothers could bathe their children even where no facilities were available. The media hailed Dou Dou as a significant invention. Soon, SEVY added small pools and flotation devices such as rings, beach balls, and inflatable swim jackets to its product line. Safe, hygienic products, made of PVC and designed for portability, durability and convenience, became the SEVY trademark.

The company quickly outgrew its small facilities in Vitry. Mr. Grimbert accepted an attractive offer from the French government to take over a defunct textile factor in the tiny Alsatian village of Buhl. After establishing its new headquarters, the company added the letters "lor" to its name, and became Sevylor. In French, l'or means gold. By coincidence, or possibly fate, Sevylor has proven to be "as good as gold" to its owners, retailers, consumers, and employees.

Product Description

The Colorado has a raised bow and stern and is as close in shape, comfort and styling to the traditional North American Indian canoe as an inflatable boat will ever get. It's double hull construction makes it very rugged and rigid. The canoe combines the stability, maneuverability and sea worthiness of a kayak with comfort, looks and styling of the traditional North American canoe. Ideally suited for rough waters, lakes, ocean, fishing and diving and great for beginners. Includes 2 bucket seats, removable stern storage compartment, 2 directional strakes, carrying handles, multiple d-rings and ties, motor mount fittings (to attach a Sevylor SBM 12V trolling motor), and a nylon carrying bag

5.0 out of 5 stars sevylor canoes. (boats for the rest of us), April 6, 2007
I have to be honest, I love sevylor canoes. I decided one day I would like a boat, I certainly couldn't afford a traditional boat of any kind, so I looked to 'budget' alternatives. I remembered seeing inflatable canoes from my summer holidays and wondered if such things still existed. Sure enough, 100 bucks later with my new sevylor, cheap paddles and life preserver I was waterbourne! My first canoe was the Sevelor Tahiti and never has it failed me, my colorado is a upgrade because I was deployed with the Army and bought a gift for myself! For under 500 I have a sevylor colorado, an engine, battery and charger! Thats right folks perpetual motion (almost) for a mere 500 bucks!

There are obviously disadvantages of an inflatable canoe as compared to a hard shell canoe. Primarily an inflatable canoe is slower to paddle and will not be as responsive. That being said I would like to talk about the considerable advantages!

In less than 10 minutes I can set up and be under way, thats pretty fast especially when you don't have to tie the thing to the roof of your car.

Inflatable canoes are soft and therefore are comfortable.

They are much more buoyant than hard shell canoes, after all they are filled with air! That means my little boat can carry me and 320 pounds of equipment!

Its light, I can carry my boat to the water regardless of distance, I don't need a fancy little wheeled thingy.

they bounce over rocks.(I know I tried!)In my opinion inflatable canoes will always be more robust than a hard shell, you can't be harder than a rock, so why not be softer? (very zen)

Needless to say I am a huge fan of my Seveylor Colorado, just for the record I have named my boat 'Serenity' although I am having difficulty breaking the champagne bottle...

4.0 out of 5 stars Sevylor inflatable Colorado Canoe, June 27, 2007

This review is from: Sevylor Inflatable Colorado Canoe - Blue (Sports)
I think that this Sevylor canoe is a great buy for the money. It is easy to haul and set up. We keep it on a shelf in the garage and throw it in the car on a whim to go to the local lake all the time. We are both over 45 and come close to hitting the maxium weight limit. My husband and grown sons use it for fishing all the time. We do not have the money, space, or trailer to have a regular canoe. This has worked out great. Our grown children have stopped by on weekends, picked up the canoe and went out and had a great day. It is very easy to store, carry and set up.

We also bought the sevylor trolling motor, it is also great. For 80.00 you can not go wrong. We camp alot on small lakes and rivers. This is the perfect little extra for the trip. We bought the canoe, 2 paddles, the trolling motor and a deep cycle marine battery, all for under $400.00.
I am not saying that there are'nt better canoes out there. What I am saying is for the money, convience, fun, storage issues. this is a great product.
It is great for the whole family. Money is always a consideration with us. I try to get the best buy for our dollar and we feel this is one. We have hit rocks, dragged on pavement ect... and it holds up. It is very well built and sturdy.

Of course this canoe could do better tracking when paddling, of course it could be more comfortable, but I did not buy a $1000.00 canoe. For a grand total of 400.00 ( with all the extra's). We have something that does exactly what we bought it to do!. We have truely enjoyed this product and it as shown us what great fun being on the water is with out it being a huge expense. This set up is something the average family can afford, store, use and be happy with.

The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating, was because it made me want more...a big boat!

5.0 out of 5 stars great boat, January 2, 2008

Great boat for the price. Not the fastest boat in the water but very stable, durable, fun and convenient. The bottom is thick (which does add considerable weight) and extremely resistant to puncture. Its great to have a boat in the trunk where ever we go.
