This book has received so many gushing reviews that one would be tempted to rush out and buy the book without a second thought. I personally bought it solely for the patterns in 12 month and 2 year sizes since I don't have many of those . But to say that this is 'the best sewing book ever' and 'the only book a beginner will need ' to quote some of the other reviews on Amazon, is stretching the truth very far indeed.
I will say the good and the bad:
GOOD:
1. Patterns in several sizes that appear well graded.
2. All the sizes mentioned are available for all the patterns, unlike another book I looked at, with smocking designs, which claimed to have 12 designs in sizes from 2-12 but in reality each design only had specific sizes.
3. Several pages of general information at the outset, useful for beginners, not so much for experienced sewists.
4. Very good clean cut garment designs, which anyone with a creative mind could really expand upon to create any style of clothing to one's own preference, be it "Matilda Jane', 'classic' or any other style.

BAD:
1. The book is overpriced. For that price, they really should have included a paper pattern sheet , not just a CD. Printing and sticking together 30 odd pages for each design and then cutting out the patterns takes up a lot of time and is an additional cost too.
2. The PDF maker should have taken the trouble to arrange the pattern pieces so that smaller pieces appear on a single sheet of paper. It is a pain when a piece 5 inches long and 2 inches wide has to be stuck together because it comes out printed on two different sheets. I hope the author will rectify this if there is a second edition of this book. The A-line dress collar pattern does not match up correctly at one place.
3.

This is one of the very best books I have ever seen for creating clothing for children, The patterns work perfectly when you print them out correctly and put them together. That is a huge plus because there are other patterns out there that do not work at all. The directions in the book for the sewing techniques are clear and easy to follow even for beginning sewers. I have taught sewing and patternmaking for many years at a university and I was pleased to see a new author with not only such a creative way of putting together fabric and trims, but of giving clear instruction for the sewing so that anyone with even a tiny bit of common sense could do it and feel accomplished. I hope we see more from this talented new author.

I received this as a Christmas present after requesting it. I had the opportunity to meet Lindsay at the Martha Pullen School last summer and take one of her courses and I knew that I wanted it hot off the press.
Every single one of the patterns is marvelous (and I have made several). They go together perfectly, which means they are expertly drafted and every single detail is spelled out to give a professional result to anyone with minimal sewing skills. Plus, you can e-mail her to ask a question at any time and she will respond quickly.
Your choice of fabric for the patterns will personalize it and make it your own. Whether pastels or bright prints are your preference, the patterns lend themselves to anything you would like to try.
This book is marvelous and if you sew for little girls, it will become a favorite the first time you try one of the patterns.

I have been sewing since I was 14 years old....now I am 58 years old! So I do know quality patterns and instructions. Lindsay has done an excellent job in this book of inspiring, illustrating and creating these patterns for children. The author has kept in mind the beginner sewer to the most advanced in sewing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to see their little loved one feeling good in their clothing........classic memories!
