About the Author

After graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Gail taught English in the Minneapolis Public Schools. A gift of quilt blocks made from old worn fabrics, a magazine article, and a 1963 purchase of a needlework book by Rose Wilder Lane were the beginnings of her quiltmaking journey. Gail learned about quilts and quiltmaking by reading books. Her study of quiltmaking grew coincidentally with raising three active daughters. Winning a sweepstakes award at a local fair led to teaching adult education quilting classes. In 1982 Gail was certified as a national quilting teacher by the Embroiderer's Guild of America. Her quilts have been shown locally and juried into regional quilt shows. Gail and her recently-retired husband live 36 miles from the Canadian border in a small town on the prairies of Montana near where her parents raised wheat and where her grandparents homesteaded.
