5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, a Little Different, and For All Skill Levels November 30, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I secretly (well, not any more) bought Chrissie Grace's Sew To Swap - Quilting Projects to Exchange Online & by Mail with NO intention of parting with or swapping any of the projects. But other quilters will indeed want to share Grace's fun and whimsical patterns, which include many paper-pieced projects such as a hexagon table runner, a pillow cover made from selvages , and a sweetly sophisticated argyle pillow cover which ties closed. There's also a bit of redwork and some curves; my favorite project is the sampler quilt which features 12 entirely different curved blocks. Every project has suggestions for making it a swap project.

The overall organization of the book is small to medium to "gigantic" projects, and Grace leads this all with a beefy introductory section that is 30 pages long. This is a beginner-friendly book in every way. Sprinkled like bright confetti throughout the book are tips and Q&A surveys from 17 different contributors (a couple of whom are guys - yay!). There are several very nicely done hand-drawn illustrations, although actual real-life photographs are also included. I've not yet made any of the projects, but the level of instructive text is quite amazing and lively.

What made me buy this book is the enchanting array of fabric bits on every page. Just now I spotted a tiny elf, some hippos, and bunches of alarmingly garish prints that I could never before picture myself buying, yet I just have to start collecting them all NOW. Even when I look at the predominantly grey 9-patch project on this chilly November day, I start to warm up. It's just not possible to have a down day flipping through this spirited and playful book by Chrissie Grace and her lucky community of contributors.
