Tina designs. This is one of the best books I have come across in making one of a kind children's clothes. Can hardly wait to
Sew Tina! starts with a brief but thorough section on techniques like pleating, gathering, binding, mitering corners, with lovely drawn instructions. The projects are then split into two sections: for the Little Ones and the Bigger Ones. Tina Givens' adorable illustrations pepper the pages.
While I've made a lot of baby gifts over the past few years, I continue to be hesitant about making clothing for kids or myself. Well, until I read this book! Tina's voice is so fun and encouraging, you can't help but be swayed by her enthusiasm and confidence that you'll do just fine. She's warm, funny and definitely not fussy. Her fabric designs and illustrations are a good reflection of her attitude: exuberant, playful and upbeat.
In Tina's own words, this is a book "in which I celebrate sewing for kids". The patterns are whimsical and fun, perfect for playtime but stylish too. The clothes are roomy and meant to grow with the child. Tina gives the reader little tips throughout, including confidence-boosting gems like: "Remember to use your judgment and enjoy the creative journey, people!"
Some of my personal favorite projects include the Squeaky Cap and Booties (unbearably cute!), the awesome Moses Basket (wish I had seen this when I was still pregnant!), the Baby Lounge Suits and the Maryjane Booties.Read more ›
