About the Author

Watercolourist and fabric designer Tina Givens began her career in advertising and later launched a stationery collection, Cid Pear Stationery. Her design work for Westminster Fibers' FreeSpirit Fabrics has appeared in everything from paper products to textiles to clothing. To see more of her work, visit www.tinagivens.com.

More About the Author

Tina grew up within a multicultural environment, including English, Greek and African heritage. A family of migrants from England and Cyprus to Africa, and then on to Canada and the United States. From a very early age, Tina has been sewing & collecting, but layered onto this knack for creative sewing, she is a true artist at heart. Her illustrations, paintings and collage art play a large role in Tina's apparel collections, paper design and lifestyle products. Rich vintage textiles, vintage elements and ancient African materials have always been her everyday inspiration. This fusion of history and present design is reflected in all of her work, from apparel, jewelry, home decor and surface design. There's this uncanny twist of 'Out of Africa' Linen, English garden prints, Mediterranean color and yet set into a subtle tribal city farm girl aesthetic.

I also like the fact that this is a spiral bound book, which means it lays flat on your work table.

Well I love the projects in this book. That being said, there are a couple of issues that I'm surprised to find in this book. I made the Moses basket, and the material requirements were inaccurate, leaving me short on 3 items and with an extra 1/2 yard of another. Also, the pattern pieces are printed on very nice heavy paper, but are double sided, and in some cases, need to be enlarged first. I personally don't have access to a copier, so in addition to paying for the book, I will also need to purchase tracing paper to make my own pattern pieces AND paying for the enlarged copies from Kinko's. Why not just print them on thinner paper so that we can actually use them? I do really love the projects, and the directions are written clearly and in a way that make sense, but the production errors are pretty disappointing.

I looked through this entire book, but my trouble started on the first few pages. The LARGEST size is 6-7, and I'm 12. Some of the projects were not clothes, but overall I doubt I'll make any of the projects. They are very nice projects, just for a younger group. I got it for my birthday, but was very disappointed! But, the projects were very pretty.

wow..I really love the creativity of Tina Givens. This book is a joy to hold, to look at all the design ideas and to read about how
Tina designs. This is one of the best books I have come across in making one of a kind children's clothes. Can hardly wait to
get started.

Tina Givens has really out done herself with this book. It offers a wide variety of projects and is a must have for any seamstress. The projects are like no others I have ever seen which is a plus. Create unique gifts, clothing and decor with this book. The instructions are easy to follow for any stage seamstress-from beginner to advanced. I highly recommend this book. It's my go to book for anything unique I feel like creating.

Tina Givens is originally from Southern Colonial Africa and had a successful marketing career, but eventually decided to make a change. She created a lovely stationery collection, with detailed and saturated watercolors and also designs beautiful fabric lines. All of the projects in Sew Tina! feature fabrics from two of her fabric lines: Fairy Tip-Toes and Treetop Fancy. The material has bright and exuberant patterns, whick make it creative and fun for children.

I loved how the sewing steps are illustrated with watercolor paintings by the author. Plus, there are additional whimsical watercolor illustrations from the author scattered throughout, which really enhance the book. At the start of Sew Tina!, there are explanations of basic sewing techniques like pleating, binding, gathering, hemming and more. And there are eighteen full size patterns tucked in an evelope at the start of the book, ready to be cut out and made into cuteness!

Sew Tina! mainly has projects for babies and young children, although there are also fun ideas that would work for older kids, like totes and backpacks and fabric necklaces. There are darling projects for babies like a moses basket, checkerboard quilt, floral mary jane booties and more, all made from her delightful fabrics.

For young boys there are instructions for easy pull on shorts, as well as a comfy lounge outfit. The reversible skirt is a great solution for young girls who find it hard to make up their mind about what to wear! There are many other projects, all with engaging photos and easy to read instructions. Tina Given's style and creativity are evident thoughout this enjoyable book. If you'd like to sew up some fun for your kids, Sew Tina!: 30 Cute Projects & Adorable Decor Items for Kids is the perfect place to find all kinds of great ideas!
