2.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Not For Me
This book has good information however the projects appear to be a little dated. I was hoping the projects would focus more on sewing things for the home and not so focused on sewing garments from vintage linen.

It is organized wonderfully, illustrated beautifully and filled with many, many easy to sew ideas, not to mention all that you will learn about taking care of your old textiles. Ms. Atwood does a wonderful job of helping us learn how to use our old fabrics that are sitting in closets and not being put to use. I love this book - every sewer should have it. It is also very reasonably priced for all of the information that is packed into it. Do yourself a favor and order it now. You will not be sorry. Even if you are new to sewing or an old pro. this should be on your bookshelf. It would also make someone very happy to receive as a gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turn Old Linens into Clothing and Decorative Home Items, May 28, 2005

If you're looking for a how to book for taking vintage linens and sewing them into useful items, you've found it in this book. Moderate sewing skills are required, as well as a sewing machine.
Some of the items are small enough to be made out of damaged linen pieces that don't have any antique value.

The projects can be broken down into these catagories-Women's Tops, Children's Dresses, Gift Bags, Pillows, Curtains,& Simple Purses. These projects are nicely done and the end results are tasteful enough to actually wear or use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for vintage textiles, August 12, 2009
This review is from: Sew Vintage (Hardcover)
Great Pictures and pattern ideas, The actual patterns are hard to find but there are many similar patterns out there. This book is inspiring with the projects use of fabric. It was worth much more than I paid for it! it is one of my favorite sewing idea books. I just like the author she presents the book as if she is talking to you. I have loaned this book out a couple of times and end up buying another copy for myself and gifting the loaned copy to the borrower since they enjoyed it so. I would definitely say buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sew Vintage, July 10, 2009

I checked this book out of the library, but it is going on my wish list of books I want in my permanent collection. I had the good fortune to pick up this book right around the same time I was at a yard sale with multiple pieces of vintage embroidered dresser scarves and hankies for 25 cents or less. I am a sucker for these types of items and couldn't resist. But what to do with 4 dresser scarves with the same embroidered butterfly design (although in different colors). Sew Vintage to the rescue! By looking through the book and getting my brain thinking about it, I plan on making a kitchen window valance from the matching dresser scarves. After that I will still have pieces leftover and unfortunately the book has to be returned to the library so I need to get my own copy so as not to forget the great ideas for clothing and soft furnishings that this book covers. The author also showed a nifty way of inserting bias neck binding that resolves the `bump' where the two ends come together and I look forward to trying that technique on my next top.

The book is full of full color photographs showing the different projects and techniques. It covers a lot of ground and shows ways to use the vintage fabrics and laces that YOU find, rather than focusing on trying to recreate the same projects which would be frustrating as no one is likely to find the exact treasures that she found for her book.

I didn't like all of the projects in this book which is probably just a difference of taste. I did enjoy the tips on how to clean vintage fabrics. I loved the christening gown suggestion and the vintage pillows.
