Product Description

How This Works:Using the Sewell PC to TV converter is easy and simple with zero software to install. The converter features an all-in-one cable that breaks out into the three cables you'll need to connect to your computer: a VGA cable, a 3.5mm stereo audio cable (aka 1/8" stereo audio or mini stereo jack), and a USB cable (just to power the converter). The all-in-one PC-side cable reduces cable clutter immensely. Once the VGA, 3.5mm audio, and USB is connected, you'll just need to connect the red, white, and yellow (right/left audio and composite video respectively) ports to your TV with the provided cables. This unit also supports S-Video output to the TV (optional). The PC to TV has built-in button controls to adjust the video and also to zoom in if desired.Quality of Conversion:As with all PC to TV conversions, the image quality is not quite that of straight VGA pass-through. We have a very comprehensive article with screenshots where we compare the PC to TV conversion with straight VGA. The PC to TV converter works well for picures and videos, for small text and fine detail we recommend the VGA to HDMI converter which is optimized to work with HDTVs.Past Models:Being the world leading distributor of PC to TV products, Sewell Direct knows the concerns users have had with past units; mainly the issue with cable clutter. Not only have we improved the PC to TV by including audio (so you don't have to route a seperate cable from your PC to the TV to handle audio), but we've combined all cables that go to the PC in one single break-out cable. The difference is quite significant:

This is a terrific laptop-to-tv adapter. The composite video output enabled me to connect to older and newer TV's while staying at several different hotels on a recent trip. I heartily recommend this adapter for travellers who want to connect laptops to a variety of TV's.

This product works really well. Does it exactly what you expect it to, going from your VGA and headphones ports right into your TV. And what's more, all the cables are attached in a clean bundle. Most of the other products out there don't do sound. The Sewell does. I haven't had to mess with the controls on the box itself because it looked so good the first time. All I needed was to reboot my computer and change the resolution. I highly recommend!

Easily view streaming movies from my laptop (the reason I got it). Small font's can be a little difficult to read. Perfect compromise between picture quality and price. I love the cable setup; easy to manage. I'd buy it again!

This adapter does exactly what it states. You connect it to your PC (desktop or Laptop's) VGA port, connect the USB cable for power and the audio cable to your headphones port all on your computer. Next connect the RCA cables (Not supplied) from the adapter to your TV. I purchased 25FT RCA cables so my laptop doesn't need to sit right next to the TV for convenience. Works great, very nice picture quality. You can stream Netflicks, Hulu, etc. from your PC to your TV or put up anything thats on your PC screen to the TV for presentations etc.

In this age of laptops with only HDMI output and no more S-video, we had a problem trying to get computer video onto our old standard def TV. Since all laptops still have VGA outputs, this sounded like a good way to go. It was easy to set up and works with any of our computers with no added software or training for our non-techie family members. It doesn't have the greatest quality conversion - I miss the S-video cable - but it is quite usable and did exactly what we needed.

As a good consumer, I read quite a few reviews concerning this product and some of the competing products. Based on the product description and the reviews, I decided to purchase this product. I understood the aspects of the video conversion and the quality of the target TV (a 27" CRT) so my expectations were reasonable. I did not expect to be able to read the small print on the screen and just wanted to be able to watch streaming video of TV shows, movies, and picture slideshows on my TV. I was not disappointed.

When I first received the unit and hooked it up using a S-video cable I already had, it was very fuzzy and jumpy. I brought down the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels and the picture looked much better. As a techie, I played with all the settings for awhile trying to get the best picture. Some settings have more effect than others. What I found out was that adjusting the TV controls directly, such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc., gave me the best overall picture than using most of the settings on the unit.

The first streaming show I saw (after I got the box set up) was the Roy Orbinson concert on Amazon Prime Instant Video. It was filmed in black & white. Believe it or not, getting black & white to look good is not as easy as you might think. It takes some time and effort to get the right balance of brightness and contrast since you don't want it to be too bright or too dark and also want to have good grey scales as well. Once I got the right brightness/contrast balance and sharpened it up (all using the TV settings) the picture looked great. I also watched a show (in color) directly after the concert and the colors looked quite good.

I own a 32" Sony WEGA and I am delaying the need to switch to an LCD screen as long as possible. I was looking for a solution that will
1. Not require a monthly fee for a DVR (think Tivo, $12-$15 a month)
2. Not limit the websites I can watch shows from(think Roku or Apple TV) Roku only allows you to watch from a few websites like Hulu Plus, Amazon VOD etc. Apple TV likewise has limited sites you can view shows from.

Sewell PC to TV VGA was the best solution I had found.

Here is why:
I follow several TV shows like Private Practice, Greys Anatomy, The Mentalist, HGTV's Property Virgins etc. I was choosing between buying Tivo, Roku, or Apple TV to be able to watch these shows on my TV. Tivo was the best solution but it charged a monthly fee (12-15) and required a down payment. The other possible choices were Roku and Apple TV. For Roku, you have to watch the TV episodes on certain websites like Hulu Plus, Youtube, Amazon Video On Demand etc. The problem with some of these sites is they are not always updated with the latest episodes of the shows I watch. If you want the latest episodes, you have to pay a monthly fee of 7.99 a month on Hulu Plus! Some shows in Hulu are not very up to date as well. For example, on Saturday, I tried to watch the latest episode of Private Practice (which was aired three days before), but Hulu says the episode is coming soon. I have not tried Apple TV, but I have heard about shows limited to the ones available in the Itunes Store. Do correct me if I am wrong.

With Sewell PC to TV VGA, I can simply go onto the various TV network websites, and watch the latest episodes from there for free. If I want to go to Amazon or Netflix, I can still do so. I have the option of going to any website I want.
