Book Description

February 12, 2012
Do it yourself sewing machine repair! Sound like a far fetched idea? Not so, according to Reuben O. Doyle, a sewing machine repairman of 25 years and author of "Sewing Machine Repair For The Home Sewer". "In over 75% of the repair jobs I get, the home sewer/crafter could easily have handled the job if only they'd known what to look for. In about 25% of the repair jobs I go out on, the problem is such a minor one that anyone with a checklist of what to look for could fix it in seconds, but I have to charge them the same service fee as on any repair job. Of course any broken sewing machine parts need to be taken to an authorized service repairman for repair or replacement, but those types of service calls are by far the minority!" "Sewing Machine Repair for the Home Sewer" is a book that is long overdue for anyone who owns a sewing machine. Written in step by step instructional style, it takes the machine owner through problem/solution scenarios allowing them to fix problems that can cause a lot of frustration for those who sew. Whether you have an older model machine, or one of the new computer models, this book will help keep your general repair costs to a minimum. The home sewer can now just look up the problem in this handy guide book and follow the instructions on how to fix it. YES, it's now as easy to fix your sewing machine as picking up a book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected November 20, 2012

I had high hopes for this book, Sewing Machine Repair for the Home Sewer, but unfortunately it wasn't as detailed as I thought it would be. I have an older mechanical machine and I wanted to diagnose a couple of small problems. Although I did not expect a factory manual, the lack of an index and the minimal explanations made it difficult to understand what to do in a given situation. Also, my sewing machine manual has a more detailed troubleshooting chart, which isn't saying much. I would consider this more of an overview of how a sewing machine works rather than a repair manual. Definitely overpriced for the information provided. A big disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sewing Machine repair for the HomeSewer October 20, 2012
I was disappointed with the book. Most everything he describes except for a two chapters can be found in most Sewing Machine Manuals that accompany a machine when you buy it. I expected much more from the book. It is probably a good book for the most novice of sewers especially those who don't have their machine's manual ( which usually can be easily gotten from the manufacturer). Oh well, I have bought many books from Amazon and this was the only one that left me feeling very negative about it.
