Nothing in common?.....Think again.,
By Joe Delehanty (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex and Celibacy (Paperback)
Well, I grabbed this book off of my shelf just before departing for the airport. Once on the plane, I began to read away. After a few pages, I thought that I would not be able to relate to this "straight" man, as I am gay. I forced through a few more pages and then it clicked, this guy was writing about my childhood and adolescent experiences. I couldnt put the book down.Wolter traces intimacy issues back to the roots. The things he touched on were fascinating...everyone trying to recreate relationships from thier past, dating a "mom-a-like" or a "dad-a-like", making friends friends with people who remind you of your siblings, etc. Wolter breaks us guys down to simple creatures, always in competition with each other, hiding our feelings, and trying to fulfill something missing through dysfunctional relationships and shallow casual empty sex. Celibacy and spirituality are tied together in ways I never imagined. I'm buying a copy for all of my ex's and all of my future partners! |
