I dunno...I am in the middle of reading this and it doesn't really hit my switch, as far as sensuality goes. Maybe I am looking for more literary finesse to complement the sex in these stories?

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensuality at it's best!, January 27, 2000

While not the biggest fan of erotica in the past, having read a few of the other erotica books on the market only to be left disappointed, I felt compelled to read The Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth because I have become a huge fan of Zane through her newsletters over the past two years. The other erotic writers out there only scratch the surface. Zane takes erotic fiction to an entirely different level. Her characters are vibrant, the situations are real and the stories are sensual. Some of the stories were so engaging that I could barely sit in my seat without squirming and others were so funny that I couldn't control my laughter. Every last one of the stories stirred something inside of me and I have never had a book do that to me before. The sister is truly talented and I would encourage anyone, no matter what your sex or race, to pick this book up with a quickness. Zane is destined for greatness and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it hot in here or is it just ME????, August 5, 2001
Turn up the air conditioning and PLEASE have a man on standby!! Whew! The visual pictures this book evokes is nothing compared to the feelings it stirs up! Girlfriend, you are to be commended for putting it out there and going where no one has really had the nerve to go, and tastefully at that. I have never been a short story person, preferring the evolution of the characters and storyline in novels. However, each story was so well rounded, it was like small doses of chocolate. Just right and hits the spot, even though you know you're not suppose to be having it at all. I can't wait to read Addicted and Shame On It All. If the short stories are that good, I can only imagine that one concentrated story will be off da hook! For anyone who feels they have gotten into a rut cause you've been married or together for so long that sex has become routine, then you NEED this book. Trust me. It'll open up a whole avenue of new ideas!! LOL Zane, keep of the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sister's Imagination Just Won't Quit!, August 2, 2000
I have never been big on erotica. At least, not until now. I have read several of those so-called "Best Erotica" books and they were drab and totally boring. Some of them I struggled to get through and others I simply tossed aside. Now a writer has finally come onto the scene that knows what erotica is all about. The characters in Zane's stories are so vivid and wonderfully crafted that you can actually start relating to them in the 10-12 pages you get to spend with them in their individual stories. The wild part is that Zane's stories are so different from one another while the anthologies containing several different authors all sound redundant. Most of all, Zane has made me realize that I am normal and I am relieved to know that other women think just like I do. This book is not for the prudish and sexually-repressed. If you want to read the hottest book of the year, The Sex Chronicles is definitely it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotica, Tastefully Done, March 4, 2000
By
Will White (Northern VA, United States) - See all my reviews
I have been one of those fortunate to catch some of Zane's stories on the web. This body of work however, The Sex Chronicles, by far surpasses anything I've read from her to date. It is def. much wilder and delivers on its promise of being "of da hook." Not only that, but in mostly all of the stories, she paints a picture so vivid, that you could actually get consumed into the story, feeling you are actually a part of the action.

I was also impressed with the realism of the stories, being able to identify because I've either been involved in similar situations, or knew of someone who was.

I can't leave without commenting on the other promise that this book fulfills- "Shattering the Myths." After reading I can say that my personal myths were shattered about the sensuality of women. Reading these stories brought forth an understanding that women are every bit the sexual beings we are, if only a little different.

Excellent work. Zane. Erotica, tastefully Done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go in Zane, September 30, 2004
This review is from: The Sex Chronicles : Shattering the Myth (Paperback)
Or, as more people do, come in Zane.

I picked this up when I would be away from the comforts of home for a week. It was just what I wanted - literate, luscious, and lusty. It's erotica that I can really enjoy, the kind that's mostly about people enjoying each other all out, in every way a body can please a body, own or others'. There's not much here for the fetish crowd, and almost every encounter centers on one man and one woman (from her point of view). Maybe that's not enough variety for some readers, but the endless variations work for me.

This is enjoyable, intelligent, and sexy, with extra flavor from Zane's brown sugar. I'm coming back for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime Inspirational, July 7, 2000
This is definitely not a book for everyone ! In fact I would say it is for the matured adult and if you are easy to offend this is not the book for you ! Some of the characters can be realistic and sometime you will even be amazed at what they do ! Yes ! I will say Zane is a very talented author that leaves nothing to the imagination ! Reading this book has opened my eyes to somethings that I could never have imagined ! This is a collection of short stories not to be read at any time ! I found myself saving this books for bedtime reading ! It made me certainly appreciate being married ! I needed a highlighter and a pen while reading this book ! While I could only read one story at a time ,I use the highlighter to hightlight the stories on the contents page showing I have read it ! I used the pen to put a *for the stories I will read again ! I have not found many African American Erotica authors and I can see why ! Zane you are at the top ! You go girl ! If you think you can handle the challenge do so It has taken me 4 months to read this book ! No it was not a bad read in the since you might think ! It was a HOT one ! I will put the caution sign up again ....can be explicit no, will be expliciting told !

5.0 out of 5 stars Shocking But Right On Point, February 14, 2000
By
I had never heard of Zane before my boyfriend bought me this book but I must say that The Sex Chronicles is wonderfully written and devilishly entertaining. At first, I assumed I wouldn't be able to get into the book since I am more of a novel person as opposed to short stories. However, after the first couple of stories I was hooked. I could visualize all of the characters, I could feel their emotions and I could relate to a lot of the situations. The characters range from funny to serious, from shy to extremely uninhibited, but they are all "real". They reminded me of my friends and family members. Some of them even reminded me of myself. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for something "different" to read. This book is right on time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotic and Highly Informative, February 20, 2000
By
I've been a fan of Zane for a while now and haven't read anything written by her that I didn't like and this book is no exception. She has portrayed various types of women in highly erotic situations where before men were the ones featured as the sexual aggressors/initiators and the ones that carried out their fantasies, not so here. The whole scope of her book, contained not only erotic scenarios but the thoughts these women had before and after their encounters, thoughts that we as women have, whether they are spoken out loud or not. Zane's book was not only entertaining but highly informative for those of us thinking about recreating some of her escapades on our own. Personally, I enjoyed her storylines that help us to "see" these women and in some instances "feel" what they were feeling. A very down-to-earth, steamy read and believable to boot. Her women were, loving, romantic, and caring. Some threw caution to the wind, or a good girl being "bad", or a down and dirty wild chile. Regardless, all of them kept a *smile* on my face or had me laughing out loud at their daring and libidinous antics. I loved it and recommend it to women and men alike. Whoever said women aren't as lustful as men haven't read THIS book!

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY OFF DA DAMN HOOK!!!!!!!!!!, September 25, 2001
Wow, what can I say. I basically came across it by mistake. The cover grabbed my attention, and just the description kept it! The very first story in the "Wild" section (her book is divided into Wild-Wilder-Off Da Damn Hook) is one of my favorites along with "Sock it to Me, The Airport, The Bachelorette Party, Alpha Phi #uckem, Nymph, ect". As you can see the whole damn book is my favorite! Ladies, buy this book as a gift to yourself, and Men buy it as the TRUE BOOK TO HOW TO PLEASE A WOMEN CAUSE ZANE TELLS IT LIKE IT T-I-S!!!!!!!!!! Zane is the "Iyanla Vanzant of sex & romance. Iyanla connects you to your spiritual side, Zane will connect you & your mate to your G-spot and then some;) I brought the book to work, now all of my co-workers want it including every other book Zane has ever written. If mama never told you that there would be night like this, allow Zane to tell you straight up!!!!! See ya at her website...

I dunno...I am in the middle of reading this and it doesn't really hit my switch, as far as sensuality goes. Maybe I am looking for more literary finesse to complement the sex in these stories?

I haven't really delved into erotica as of yet, so I have nothing to compare it to--although Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), of all people, wrote some fiction that nicely worked sexual fantasy into a story line. I found it beautiful and quite erotic.

Zane is treating sex like the average guy does. Just a banal fast f*kk. I am looking for nuance, and a pace that actually feels like lovemaking. Good erotica should feed your senses--I want to see, hear, smell, and taste what is going on in the story.

That's what separates erotica from porn, because believe me, honey, there is a difference!

Her writing lacks sensuality, in my opinion.
