Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The musical soundtrack for Sex and the City is every bit as romantic and glitzy as you might expect from the racy HBO TV series. Soulful grooves and slinky, seductive pop tunes run the gamut from the 1970s disco of Moloko's "The Time Is Now," on which falsetto vocals and lush strings underline the track, to the old-time R&B feel of Joan Osborne's "Righteous Love." Nearly everyone on board is in a sentimental mood. Country star Trisha Yearwood delivers the piano torch ballad "For Only You," while Aimee Mann contributes "Calling It Quits," a literate shuffle in the Elvis Costello vein. The Dust Brothers revive the 1976 Andrea True Connection hit "More More More." An expert on sex moves and never one to miss a chance to update his sound, Tom Jones receives the "Peppermint Jam Mix" for "Sexbomb" (featuring Mousse T), a tune as subtle as its title suggests. The Sex and the City score goes down perfect with a bottle of fine wine and candlelight--and a little backup Barry White, just in case. --Rob O'Connor

Product Description

Out of print in the U.S.! The Sex & The City movie, released in the summer of 2008, has raised interest in the original HBO series and this popular soundtrack. Sex & The City was truly a TV phenomenon. Since it's original run on HBO, there have been many network shows that tried to copy it's winning formula, but in the end, none of them succeeded because no other show had the guts that Sex & The City had. The show has continued it's popularity, spawning a theatrical release in 2008! This release was the first collection of songs taken from the series. Features 13 tracks including cuts from Tom Jones, Imani Coppola, Groove Armada, Bette Midler, Missy Elliott and many more. Warner.

Okay, this a great collection of sexy tunes to accompany your idea of SEX AND THE CITY. But are you ready for the bad news? The theme song is not on here -- it's a very slow remix by GROOVE ARMADA. And if you are looking for the song "MORE,MORE,MORE" that they are using in the promos...it's not on here either. They have another remix which renders the song a little differently than what you are hearing on HBO. This is not a "true soundtrack" because none of these songs appear in the series. But if you are a fan of the artists, it is a worthy investment! I love the Missy Misdemeanor Elliot song "Hot Boyz". And Aimee Mann provides a poignant take on a couple that just won't work out (sort of Big and Carrie maybe) on "Calling It Quits". And the songs are all very good, but be warned that the music is altered from what you hear on the show.

1.0 out of 5 stars Theme Song NOT on CD!, June 26, 2000

I also bought this CD expressly for the salsa-like theme song, and was VERY disappointed to hear the sounds of traffic on city streets with some faint music in the background that was barely identifiable as the theme. It is so bad that I thought perhaps there had been an error in the production of it. The rest of the music on the CD is a waste of time. Too bad -- they could have done so much better!
