4.0 out of 5 stars I know the name of the French song from the last episode!
It is by MC Solaar, a popular french rapper, and the name of the song is La Belle Et Le Bad Boy, and it is off the Cinquieme As (Fifth Ace) album. I am really bummed that this song is not included on the soundtrack, as I have to say is one of the more catchy ones that they played throughout the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing for Sex and the City standards
Some of the songs were great because they were on the show. But half of these were not. Where's the finale song? How can you have a soundtrack without the most important song of all? Plus what about "Breathe" by Michelle Branch, when Carrie is on the flying trapeese. I love the show but once again, disappointed w/ the soundtrack as well as the 50 bucks for season 5 w/...

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost There, March 13, 2005
This review is from: Sex & The City (Audio CD)
The origianl "Sex and the City" soundtrack that was released a few years ago was a disaster... none of the songs were ever on the show and the theme song was remixed by Groove Armada... a nice remix but we want the original version as well.

Well, finally we get it, as well as the longer version that plays during the closing credits. As well as many other songs that have played in the show throughout the past 6 years like "Point of View" DB Boulevard; "Got To Be Real" Cheryl Lynn; "If You Leave Me Now" Chicago; "New York State of Mind" Billy Joel; "Respect" Aretha Franklin; "She Bangs" Ricky Martin; "By Your Side" Sade; "Hot Stuff" Donna Summer; "Moon River" Andy Williams.

As always, there are some questionable "inspired" by songs... I still don't see the need for Britney, Justin, Kylie, or Toni Braxton. However other inspiried songs are perfect fits like Nina Simone's "Feelin' Good" and "Ladies Night" by Kool & The Gang.

Still some things that are missing that would have been nice, but you can't expect a perfect soundtrack ever...

However I think we'd all like to have had "You Got The Love" Candi Station and "La Belle et la Bad Boy" MC Solaar included, as well as a few others like "More More More" and the great, jazz number that was used in the promos for the final season that Bjork covered a few year back. I was also sad to see British group Zero 7 not included. I discovered them on this show and many of their songs have been played in several episodes.

"Sex and the City" isn't always known for it, but they had a fantastic team behind the music and no only carefully picked great classics over the years and made them hip again, but gave light to lesser known acts like DB Boulevard and Zero 7.

As this was only released in the UK (Hence the $40 import price, however I found it at a record store here for $28) let's hope there is another, US release that finally get's it 100% right.

Just because the show is over doesn't mean your job is done.

1.0 out of 5 stars what?, August 15, 2004

Nothing against the music, this CD would completely get five stars, were it not for the fact that it is $40.99.

For that much money, I'd hope it would come with the casts' signature, or for it to file my tax return.

But, it doesn't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for, July 30, 2004
By
This review is from: Sex & The City (Audio CD)
I've looked at the other two soundtracks available, and this is the CD with songs I've heard while watching the show.

My favorite song is "Point of View," which was played while Carrie was being photographed for her book cover. Great song with a nice tempo.

5.0 out of 5 stars you can imagine the 4 ladies talking, walking, dancing ..., September 13, 2005
This review is from: Sex & The City (Audio CD)
I prefer to hear again and again of course the main theme of "Sex and the city"- the trigger for running to the television set. Hearing "I ' m outta Love" you can imagine the four ladies swinging in a dancehall. "Got to be real": Carrie as a model in a fashion show stalks along the catwalk. "If you leave me now": Beautiful contrast to the fast songs. Petula Clark's "Downtown" is really immortal alike a beautiful piece of jewelry. "New York State of mine" - sung by Billy Joel maybe sounds better than performed by a drunken Mr. Big. "These boots are made for walking": One can hardly sit quietly. Anti dancers rhythmically nod the head. "I ' m every women" - I love this minimized version (before Whitney Houston styled up the performance). "Bootylicious" - A randy woman energy song telling something about crisp male bottoms. "She bangs": Do you remember? The four Ladies went to a queer party. "Love Foolosophy" nice play with word-fragments done by Jamiroquai. "Women worth": Alicia Keys bellows out this song accomponied by her gentle piano tones. "Unbreak my heart": Heart pain pure! Who does not know this song? Who does not spill a tear sometimes about something which goes wrong? "By your side" - terrific song about a human being who always suits aside and helps. "Time after time" - Do you know the version done by Eva Cassidy? That's my favorite! Not this one by Cindy Lauper. "Hot stuff" - you have to take off your clothes listening to this hot stuff! "Moon River" - "I Love New York" was the title of the story: Mr. Big said good bye, leaving the Big Apple, going to California. You sure will be sad, when your CD-player suddenly is broken in the middle of one of these songs ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Help--Please, August 14, 2005
This review is from: Sex & The City (Audio CD)
In the final episode when Carrie is still in Paris, after she leaves the museum, she is on her way to "her" dinner--there is a French song that is played--that is when "Big" pulls up beside her but neither ones sees the other....does anyone know the name of that song and/or who sang it? I love it. Thanks in advance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not do the series any justice..., June 21, 2005
This review is from: Sex & The City (Audio CD)
The only thing to recommend this album is that the catchy theme is on it twice and there are some credible tracks by some good artists, unfortunatly there are some lack lustre poor tracks too which just help "fill" the album. More bizarrely there are some tracks that never even featured in the show and lots of great tracks that did feature in the show are absent.

Basically this album is a kind of okay workaday car album but really only stands out because it was so obviously, hastily slammed togehter to capitalise on the demise of the show a year ago and I for one despise that kind of commercial cynacism!
