HBO's pricing is laughable.,
By
This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
I am an avid watcher of Sex and the City, I adore the show. However, I think other fans will agree with me when I say that Season 5 was pretty much the lowpoint of the series. I record all of the episodes of every season and watch them frequently . . . I haven't touched my Season 5 tapes since it aired.Initially, it was supposed to be 13 episodes (instead of the normal 18) to accomodate Sarah's pregnancy. We were supposed to get 8 episodes in the summer and then she was to return to the show for 5 more episodes the following spring. As you can see, that never happened. We were left with 8, "okay" episodes. My main complaint and its a big one, is the pricing of the DVD "set", if you can call it that. This is the shortest season of the series, 8 episodes, compared to the normal 18. Now why in hell would I pay just as much money for 8 episodes as I would for 18? I mean, maybe if they'd added some special features to this set to make up for a lack of episodes, I might consider buying this. However, knowing what I do about the Sex and the City DVDs I own, I highly doubt that anything has been added. In short, I cannot recommend this purchase simply because HBO is asking the same from us (monetarily speaking) and only delivering about a quarter of what they have in the past (episodes and episode quality). Even though I love the series, I will not purchase this item.

Season cut short,

This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
Since season 5 was cut short due to Sarah Jessica Parker's pregancy, I think they should combine season 5 and 6 for one price instead of charging the same thing for only 8 episodes. I adore Sex and the City and will miss it dearly. At least I have my DVDs to watch over and over. I love my "girls of summer"!!!

Two Disk Rip Off,

This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
Only 8 episodes on only two discs and they still want the same price!!! No Way....better off to wait and buy it used. I knew that this season would be less volume wise, but I also thought the the price would reflect that as well. This is outrageous!!!The quality of the shows were also lower this season. I have the first 4 seasons and wanted this one to complete my set, but I think that I will pass for now!

We are counting on HBO to lower the price!!!,

Okay, first of all let me preface this review by saying that SATC is my all-time favorite show. I am in love with each girl on the show and find a piece of myself in all four. I think the beauty of this show is the depiction of strong, vibrant women who are trying to make it in the world by supporting eachother and using honesty in their lives. They encounter the same pitfalls and joys that many of us have experienced and I am indebted to the creators and cast for taking the time to make such a realistic show that unabashedly addresses many taboo subjects. That being said, let me just say how disappointed I am that the price of Season 5 is as high as any other season. I understand the writers changed the entire season once they discovered that SJP was pregnant and I don't fault them for it. What I do fault HBO for is the ridiculous notion that we loyal fans won't notice the short, obviously slap-dashed-together Season 5 and spend the same amount of money to view it over and over. This was not a good season for fans of Carrie or Samantha...their characters looked a bit desperate at times. Miranda and Charlotte do not disappoint and P.S. Will some one PLEASE at least nominate Kristin Davis for an Emmy? All in all, not the best season and a silly price because after all, the loyal fans will notice there is not the same value here and do you really want to alienate the loyal fans?

HBO is greedy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
I was all set to pre-order this DVD as I have purchased the first four seasons. But after seeing the other reviews and realizing this only has a shorten season but the regular price, I have decided not to buy it. HBO is just too greedy. I probably wont buy the remaining seasons either. I hope more people also skip buying this DVD. That is the only way HBO will learn they can't rip people off like this.

What do they think, we're idiots or something?,

Like everybody else, I enjoy the show. I went ahead and bought seasons 2-4. But I saw 2 season 5 episodes (or 1 whole 3rd of the entire season for you math students out there) and they were the worst episodes of Sex and the City I've ever seen. I still would have considered dropping $15 on a 2 disc set just to catch up on the story lines, but $32 (ON SALE) or $4 per sub-par episode? You've gotta be kidding me! if I have money to burn I MIGHT pay $4 to rent the whole thing from my video store, but that's about it. Here's what I'd like to see with Season 6: A 3-4 disc DVD collection that's actually worth the *$30-$40* price tag because A. the discs are packaged in something other than cheap plastic that completely falls apart the third time you open it, and B. it actually has "extras" on the discs that you couldn't get anywhere else. And when I say "extras", I mean something more than 4 episode commentaries by the always enthralling Michael Patrick King. For example, the latest Simpsons DVD had more discs than any SATC release and commentary by Matt Groening, writers, directors and at least 2 cast members on EVERY EPISODE, and I STILL paid less for it than my SATC dvds. I'm sure they could also find outtakes, gag reels, and other material that would be of interest to us fans to include. I think even the most loyal fan should avoid buying this set and encouraging HBO to continue this ignorant brand of customer service.

For this price you must be kidding!,

Not a great season although I loved this show, I can't believe they would even charge this much for a DVD with 8 episodes (maybe one disc) as they would for the three disc sets of the past seasons... they need to rethink this or wait for the release and add it to six, dont waste the money on this one.. not for that price... and I have them all, this is the first one I do mind paying for.

Bad Sex and the City for HBO...,

Being a huge Sex and the City fan, I've decided not to pay into HBO's greed and buy the 5th. season on DVD. It's only 8 episodes long and double disc...why are we being charged full price? Why couldn't they put in an extra disc of extras or bloopers? Frankly, it's not worth the $33. I think I've had too much Sex and the City this time around...bye girls!

HBO Is Disappointing,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
No doubt that the DVDs of this series is the most sought after. But HBO is just too much! Pricing $32 for 8 miserable episodes! If you want to fight piracy, you should respect people who buy original copies by pricing the DVDs reasonably! The most I'd pay for 8 episodes would be $15! And you know what? A lot of people turned to the pirated copies because of the arrogant people such as those in HBO demanded an unreasonable price!

Shame on HBO,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
In shopping around and doing some price comparisons the average cost of this DVD is $32 - $41. How dare HBO charge the consumer the identical price of seasons 1-4. The DVD only contains 8 lousy episodes. I refuse to pay full price for half the product. It's cases like this that I say the He** with the industry crying over piracy. First they sat around doing NOTHING to be proactive about stopping piracy before it got out of control as it did. Then instead of looking at their own inactions they started to sue teenagers as a fright tactic. This DVD represents the reason why people were stealing the product. They've been raping both the consumer and artist for many years now with insanely inflated prices and pennies on the dollar for the artist. I say they got exactly what they deserved no sympathy here. Greed can be very ugly indeed.
