I would definitely recommend this cd to all SEX AND THE CITY fans, and anyone else who likes good music. It is full of some great oldies and even some newer stuff. The CD includes a great mix of pop, techno, classic rock, and fun theme music all set to a seductive, city vibes. My personal favorite is Al Greens How can you mend a broken heart. This cd made me even more anxious for the movie which is coming out in a few days.

While some folks are probably looking at this soundtrack as just another attempt to cash in on the accompanying movie. It's obvious that this cd was put together for any and all that enjoy a cd that is solid from start to end.
I had already heard about the Fergie track "Labels or Love" which is good and the Jennifer Hudson track "All Dressed Up in Love" (which she rocks by the way). But their are several other tracks that make this soundtrack worth the price of admission. Tracks like "The Look of Love" by Nina Simone, "New York Girls" by Morringwood, "Amazing" by Jem and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green Feat. Joss Stone. I'm really glad that i decided to go and give this one a shot even though i haven't seen the movie or anything like that. It's an excellent addition to any person's musical collection. Also of note are two other very noteworthy tracks in "Kissing" by Bliss and (my fav off the album) "All This Beauty" by The Weepies. I can't even describe how much i enjoy that track alone but all the others together with it make for a soundtrack that should be sought after before or after checking out the movie.

Sex and the City, for six seasons, delivered laugh and love from its famous quartet: Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. Now, with the new sensational movie out, we have a chance to "relive" the old days with them, musically, with the compliation soundtrack from the movie.
Sometimes, movie soundtracks are quite disappointing, not truly reflecting the movie, or having songs that don't even appear in the movie ... the "inspired by" songs. Fortunately, many of the songs on the soundtrack are featured prominently in this movie, and bring smiles to your face. The opening credits number, a rappy hip song by Fergie called "Labels or Love" is very fun and very true to the series. Jennifer Hudson belts out quite a tune called "All Dressed in Love", using her pipes quite well. Other favorites on the disk are Morningwood's tribute to the fairer sex "New York Girls", Jem's harmonic convergence in "It's Amazing", and the dear India.Arie's snog "The Heart of the Matter". Another favorite is the mournful, quite rendition of "Auld Lang Syne", with Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis, which spins out over a New Year's Eve celebration in the movie: it's very beautfiul. Overall, I highly recommend this soundtrack. It'll make a PERFECT companion to your summer beach music, and a great CD to pop in the player when you are getting ready for a night with your friends! Purchase it now!

Well, I haven't seen the movie, and have only ever watched 2 episodes of the series, thanks to my cousin Nnenna who was mad about it. My review, is thus based on listening to the Soundtrack alone, without being able to relate it to the movie. What piqued my interest was the Nina Simone remix, the Al Green song, and wondering what Jennifer Hudson would sound like.
The music is a mix of genres; Dance ("The look of love" by Nina Simone, very nicely done, and the ambient Chill out "I like the way" by Kaskade, with sparse lyrics), Hip hop/Pop ("Labels or love" by Fergie), Retro Soul (the upbeat horn sprinkled "All dressed in love" by Jennifer Hudson, sounding like something the Emotions would do, and the absolutely brilliant ballad "How can you mend a broken heart" by Al Green and Joss Stone), a few Covers ("How deep is your love" by The Bird & The Bee, "The heart of the matter" by India.Arie, originally featured on her last CD "Testimony Vol.1..."), and an oldie "Walk this way" by Run DMC & Aerosmith. Other standouts are the dreamy horn sprinkled "Kissing" by Bliss, the piano laced R&B/Pop song "It's amazing" by Welsh songstress Jem, the Motown-sounding Pop song "All this beauty" by Folk/Pop group The Weepies, and another favourite of mine, the Punk rock of "New York girls" by Indie band Morningwood (sounds like something P!nk would do). As one would imagine, most of the lyrics are about love, heartbreak, dressing up, make up, and other girlie things, mostly by female acts. However, there is no denying the top notch selection of the music.

Originally, I was only going to download the Theme Song from I-Tunes, but I-Tunes only allows you to download the entire album. So, at that point, I decided to buy the CD from Amazon and at least get the liner notes/photos and a physical disc for my money. I was happy with my purchase. One of my favorite parts of the "Sex and the City" TV series was the music; although a little different in tone, the movie soundtrack does not disappoint either. It is definitely a more commercial collection than the TV show, and also aimed at a younger audience, however, it is still a fantastic collection of original music and reworkings of classic songs. "Labels of Love" is a high-energy update of the classic SATC theme song, done by Fergie and played over the movie's opening credits. "All Dressed in Love" is the closing song, belted by "Dreamgirls" Jennifer Hudson (who also has a nice part in the movie as Carrie's personal assistant). Some other faves: "All This Beauty" by The Weepies has a 60's Beatles pop feel to it; "It's Amazing" by JEM has a wonderful rhythm to it; "How Deep is Your Love" by The Bird & The Bee is an excellent remake of the classic Bee Gees song from "Saturday Night Love." Run DMC provides a fun remix of "Walk This Way," which is the perfect song for Carrie to model her 80's wardrobe in an homage to bad MTV videos while the girls give her thumbs up/down on whether she should keep that particular dress or not. "Auld Lang Syne" sung by Mairi Campbell is effective in the movie, played underneath a montage of loneliness on New Year's Eve; to listen to it by itself on a CD...not quite as good. So for those who haven't seen the movie, it may not be as meaningful. The only somewhat-miss for me is the James Bond-sounding movie theme by The Pfeifer Broz. Orchestra; it's just a little over-blown and short in my opinion. Otherwise, an excellent group of songs that bear repeated listenings.
A promotion for a Vol. 2 release is included. The liner notes include 4 beautiful photos of the quartet of girls who are the stars, and they all look ravishing! Michael Patrick King writes a nice paragraph briefly discussing the music of the movie. My beef with the liner notes (which can be applied to most liner notes) is that there is no explanation of where in the movie these songs were used; would always be nice to know. Overall, a sure-fire hit for your CD player!

I got the chance to see this movie last night & it is AWESOME!
I want to also say that the music in the movie is incredible! I highly recommend the soundtrack - It features Fergie's new song "Labels or Love" - it also has the Sex in the City theme song as well as a beautiful version of "Auld Lang Syne"... Once you see the movie you will want the soundtrack so you can relive the moments through song... :) This is an excellent compilation of songs played in the movie, you will not want to be without it!

For any of you whining and moaning and nagging that it isn't like the show, get a clue. It says "From the Original Motion Picture". For anyone confusing "HBO: Home Box Office" for an ACTUAL box office, apologies, but the only "motion picture" of SATC is the one that just came out in 2008 in actual movie theatres.
If you want the tv show theme song, nope, you aren't going to get it here. If you want La Belle et Le Bus Boy from the Paris scenes in Season Six, nope, you aren't going to get it here. If you want a CD that has a Fergie song on it that you think is g.l.a.m., well, you might be disappointed on that too. If you ACTUALLY WENT AND SAW THE MOVIE, you will know what you are in for. The songs on this CD are the exact same as the movie, including the over-the-top-yet-perfect orchestral rendition of the SATC theme song. If you went to the movie and loved that the songs helped catch you in the emotion of the moments of the scenes, you will love this CD. All of the songs on this CD are quite intense, either with the sad soul-croonings of Auld Lang Syne or the jumpiness of Fergie's Labels of Love (great intro to the movie though). It's hard not to feel overcome with various emotions (How Deep is Your Love, Heart of the Matter and How Do you Mend A Broken Heart) and joys (It's Amazing and All Dressed in Love) during each of the overwhelmingly fun and/or poignant tunes. If you did NOT see the movie but you liked the show and figure this will be a great substitute until you do see the movie, you will likely feel lost in the beats and dramatic tempos. Don't bother getting this CD until you've at least seen the movie. Plus, I am not saying everyone who loved the movie should love this CD. For some, they will love the movie plot but find that the music was melodramatic at times and not worthy of purchasing the soundtrack. That's fine. That makes for a legit review. Just don't give it a low review and whine that the Movie Soundtrack CD didn't have music from the show on it. That's lame. Really, it's all quite common sense. It would be like me getting the soundtrack from the most recent Batman flick and then whining endlessly that it didn't have those '50s bee-bop tunes from the old black-and-white TV show. I'd be silly to expect such things! ... and apologies for being harsh, but really, I'm disgruntled by the frequency with which people leave negative reviews for their own mistakes and for ordering the wrong item. That issue lies within the reviewer and nothing else.

Sex and The City Soundtrack - an eclectic mix,

Sex and The City - Soundtrack
This soundtrack is an eclectic mix of new and old and old made new. It is an indulgent treat that has something for everyone. The original songs get you up and moving. The remakes and the classic Run D.M.C/Aerosmith song take you down memory lane. It can be summed up as a contemporary throw-back. Labels or Love - Fergie Regardless of how you feel about Fergie, you can't help but get up and move to this song. It is an upbeat, feel good song. It is the perfect song for the girls of the City. All Dressed in Love - Jennifer Hudson When I first heard this song, I felt as though I entered a time portal. It's a contemporary throw back to the divas of the past. It has a definite Gladys Knight/Aretha flavor. It makes you want to sing along....while shopping. The Look of Love - Nina Simone This song starts out with a Jazz feel and turns into something you would have expected to hear as passengers boarded The Love Boat. It has a nice beat to it but it feels dated. New York Girls - Morningwood This song is reminiscent of the techno-pop/rock style of the 80's. It makes you want to get up and dance, you just can't help but bob your head to the beat. It's a fun song. All This Beauty - The Weepies Can you say The Carpenters? That's the feeling I got when listening to this song. For the older generation, it's a trip down memory lane. For the younger generation, it's one that would be passed over. I Like the Way - Kaskade More instrumental than not, it still has a nice mellow dance beat to it. It oozes sexy. It's Amazing - Jem Beautiful slow piano intro turns into a contemporary love song. The middle part of the song strays from that line into an out of place digitalized voice production reminiscent of something from the Sgt. Pepper's band. Thankfully that didn't last long and the song quickly got back on track. How Deep is Your Love - The Bird and The Bee They did a wonderful job of remaking the Bee Gee's hit song. It brought a beautiful classic song to the present. This contemporary remake stayed true to the original while still making it seem fresh. The Heart of the Matter - India Arie India Arie does a nice job of remaking this Don Henley song. She brought a fresh sound to it. Unfortunately, unlike How Deep is Your Love, the original is better than the remake. Auld Lang Syne - Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis A beautiful version of this traditional song. It has a definite Irish or Celtic sound to it. It gives you goose bumps. Definitely a new favorite for New Year's. Kissing - Bliss A slow, seductive, romantic song. You can't help but relax and get in the mood with this song. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart - Al Green featuring Joss Stone Another contemporary throw back. It stays true to the sounds of the original but with a contemporary feel. Dim the lights and lose yourself to this beautiful remake. Walk This Way - Run-D.M.C and Aerosmith A real blast from the past, you can't help but relive the video in your head. What a great way to introduce a whole new generation to a great song from the 80's. Get up and strut your stuff!

I got to see the movie last night and on the next day I knew I had to get this CD, and I wasn't disappointed. This soundtrack truly reflects the vibe of SATC with his fun upbeat songs to the more sensual vibes and of course the smooth ballads. Its truly a great CD to put on while your on the go or when you just want to chill at home.

The CD overall was good, but there are a lot of songs that didn't appear on the CD that appeared in the movie, and that was disappointing.
