5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative, Exciting!
This first volume of "new beat" poetry showcases an innovative talent that runs the gamut from hard-hitting, scathing critiques of our decadent, hypocritical society to tender expressions of love and friendship. Sage's love poem to his wife and his lament for his dead friend are particularly moving. My personal favorite, "New Jerusalem," is a hip rap...

I was also surprised that this guy put a picture himelf on almost every page. He obviously think he's very interesting.

This first volume of "new beat" poetry showcases an innovative talent that runs the gamut from hard-hitting, scathing critiques of our decadent, hypocritical society to tender expressions of love and friendship. Sage's love poem to his wife and his lament for his dead friend are particularly moving. My personal favorite, "New Jerusalem," is a hip rap with a spiritual message. The illustrations by Ruben Watson are fabulous, too. This is a striking book, literarily, visually, and tactically - a totally sensuous experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars The world's a stage, familiarize yourself with the script., July 17, 2003

Move over Dr. Seuss, Sage has channeled us all a script, so find your role and profess your soul. This cat has worn many hats and grants us vicarious intimacy with his surreal sanity. Beautifully illustrated for those lacking vision a powerful dissertation on the lattice of life and the innate precipitates of social engineering. Quaderni, Summae.

This beautiful book comes from the heart--this poet is a spiritual man who rebels against the violence and lies which have gone on in the name of his God. Stunning, powerful, and beautiful to look at on each page.

5.0 out of 5 stars We hear you!, April 24, 2003

Not everyone will "get" the message -- but then what else is new?! The book is smart, creative, cutting edge, and captures the reader with true truth vs a culture that attempts to destroy anyone and anything that gets in its way. Read it and weep! Read it and laugh! Read it and then read it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read this book loud and out loud!, April 9, 2003

This review is from: Sex Drugs and Sunday School (Paperback)
Very rarely do I come across a book of poetry that I want to read aloud, that I want to perform for myself, for my friends... Whitman, Ginsberg, beats galore... but just reading this in the voice of your mind does not bring out the full meaning. Read this book loud and out loud! Read it fast and read it with conviction. Some of the poems read like monologues straight from the heart of Americas middle. You don't have to agree with what Sage writes, just be glad that someone outthere isn't afraid of having a dissenting opinion... and a well voiced one at that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new genre, April 9, 2003
This review is from: Sex Drugs and Sunday School (Paperback)
The way Sage combines words and images creates a new form of magnetic visual poetry. It's also a beautiful, high quality book from a great poet whose art has meaning.

This is a feeble attempt to Mask bad poetry behind anti-Bush dribble.
