American Hero,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex, Lies And Politics: The Naked Truth (Hardcover)
Walter Lippmann has been quoted as saying, "He has honor if he holds himself to an ideal of conduct though it is inconvenient, unprofitable, or dangerous to do so." Larry Flynt fights for every American's rights--free speech, the right to know what's being done in our names abroad, the right to (...)privacy (right, (...)?), and the right to be left alone--even if it costs him millions, even if it puts him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. How many real heroes give themselves that title? Instead, he calls himself "a smut peddler who cares." In truth, he's "an American hero who cares."

I never expected that the man who ran Hustler magazine had such strong political views, and could express them with such ease and conviction. After reading only a couple of pages in the bookstore, I knew I had to bring it home.
First and foremost, Larry Flynt has an uncanny ability to expose the hypocrisy of those who were aghast at Clinton's escapades, the shenanigans of the Christian right, and how the press has attacked the everything Clinton while virtually ignoring the lies and distortions of the right. Flynt brings us example after example of hypocrisy whether it's Pat Robertson or Rush Limbaugh. He particularly eviscerates Limbaugh who claims to represent the common man, who drinks $2000 bottles of wine, but was turned in by his common housekeeper even after he gave her an extra $120,000 to keep quiet about it. (Has anyone noticed that the Rush story has died since his admission?) Flynt's book has no deep revelations, but may contain dozens of bits of information that we would never have heard through the mainstream media. It is honest, and it is plainly written. You get the impression that he is in the room talking to you. It is also entertaining. This book is defintely worth the time and money. The ultimate irony? I got the impression that this man "practices" more Christian values than all the Pat Robertson's in the country, that he is a man of his word. He makes no apologies for what he says or stands for. How refreshing!

Weighing in against Bush,
By Uncle Elmer "tod3" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex, Lies And Politics: The Naked Truth (Hardcover)
Larry Flynt argues that the Republican Party has duped America into thinking that it's policies that favor the rich also benefit the middle class but the reality is that this isn't true. Larry Flynt then goes on to clearly articulate the power of the average man when they vote and participate in the system to advance their own needs and not listen to the nonsense of elitist political people like Bush/Cheney.Flynt also highlights his now famous "Flynt Report" that derailed the the Republicans when they were going after Clinton. This is worth reading as the hypocracy of Bob Barr, Bob Livingstone and other politicians are amazing. I'd say this book is good for those who want a meat and potatoes approach to the current arguments against Bush/Cheney. The Flynt book is good to have in your home to remind yourself about how hypocritical the Republicans can be toward sexual matters and, more importantly, what specific reasons there are to defeat Bush/Cheney. I'd recommend buying the book.

I was not prepared to like this book by the lowly smut peddler(as he calls himself) but I did; actually I liked it a lot. It was well researched, provides lots of information, and is an easy read.

Flynt asks some good questions...,
By
This review is from: Sex, Lies And Politics: The Naked Truth (Hardcover)
...such as (in reference to Pres. Reagan's 1982 deregulation of the Banking industry): "If gaming tables where you might risk $100 are regulated, how can institutions that risk your entire life savings NOT be regulated?"
That's a damn good question, and Flynt asks a lot of them. Don't kid yourself. Larry Flynt might be a hustler of mid-core porn, but he's a pretty sharp guy, and unlike the present White House occupant, a totally self-made man. The difference between Flynt and Bush, though, is that throughout the book, it becomes apparent that Bush is a millionaire (million-HEIR, actually) who will do anything to help OTHER millionaires, and Flynt is a millionaire who hasn't lost sight of his "hillbilly" roots. Love him or hate him, I came away from the book TRUSTING the man to say what he means. If you are devoutly religious though, you might raise an eyebrow at his take on religious "fanatics." (Though personally, I thought the following excerpt was dead-on-target): [pp 218-219]: "If a person having religious visions can afford to get proper medical help, he can be adequately diagnosed as being bipolar or manic-depressive or even schizophrenic, or probably psychotic in the case of snake-handlers. Most often these disorders can be successfully treated by medication, but too many people never get the chance because they can't afford it. Maybe that's one reason right-wingers fight so hard against affordable health care for everyone. If we had better mental health care in this country, the religious right would disappear. Instead, people with chemical imbalances in their brains say they are born-again, and they become pawns of the church for the rest of their lives." You know, he might just be onto something there!

for anyone who still truly believes in the 1st Amendment.
Even if you are a Bush supporter - it's still a very worthwhile read - as long as you love America and what it's SUPPOSED to stand for.

Bush must go!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex, Lies And Politics: The Naked Truth (Hardcover)
This book is the essential companion to Fahrenheit 9/11, and it will make every American so outraged that Bush will lose in a landslide! This is the book Rush Limbaugh and the Faux News Channel do NOT want you to read. Larry Flynt blows the conservatives out of the water and out of the atmosphere with this incredible expose. Only Flynt knows how to play hardball against the conservatives--everyone else is on eggshells by comparison!

A Refreshing Breeze of Truth,
By Austin Hesse (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex, Lies And Politics: The Naked Truth (Hardcover)
I know a lot of people will ask, " why should I read a book written by a smut peddler?" I'll say because he tells the truth, he's stood up for what he thinks is right far more than Dubya ever did, he has nothing to profit except selling a book, where every move by Bush is to make money by making the people happy that contributed to his campaign. This man cares more for he working class than Bush ever did. Go to his site larryflint.com and look at some of the people he goes after it includes Kodak for enviromental reasons, and Coke for selling drinks in our schools that rot kids teeth.
Flint came from nothing, but poverty and an abusive father;however, that didn't stop him. In the Navy (unlike Bush he completed his obligation to the service) he rose to the 2nd youngest E-5 in the fleet. Although he only got to the 9th grade, he's an avid reader and a recognized authority on the 1st Amendment. Commentator Cal Thomas was glowing one day on tv because he'd spoken to Bush, and Bush told him that he was reading a book on George Washington. Sorry Cal, I'm not impressed. I suppose we're suppose to think that this means this idiot will become another Father of Our Country. This guy ought to be the pimp in a self service whorehouse. He tells a lot of facts about commentator Ann Coulter that she would rather you not know, such as for all her complaining that the liberals are all elitest she actually comes from an intitled background. Either on his website or the book, he tells how she and a number of other conservatist declined the opportunaity to be interviewed by Hustler magazine. They would probably explain that they didn't want their intertview to make money for a pornographer, but I think that it's really the fact that they knew they'd be hit with hard questions from an informed interviewer that would show them to be the hypocrites that they are. I doubt that any of them have gone further will less going for them than Flint has. He is an American success story. I came away with a lot of respect for this man. He tells a lot that every American should know. I'm sorry that more people didn't comment on this book because it makes me feel that not as many read it as should have. Larry if you read this, thanks for basically standing up for the common man and truth. You're more a patriot than Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter or George Bush.
