2.0 out of 5 stars disappointment
This wasn't what I expected. It was all questions and answers but not a how to guide which is what I thought I would be getting. If you are getting into the dating scene I think it would be very helpful.

Finally, a book for those of us over (and in some cases way over) the age of forty. Sex and Love for Grownups addresses, using a question and answer format, the type of issues that puzzle and frustrate those of who remember when Watergate and Woodstock were current events. The text is well organized. Those seeking advice for specific problems can zero right in on the sections that pertain to them. The author, Sallie Foley, offers advice that helps pinpoint the problem and then follows with concrete plans of action all delivered in a highly entertaining style that is both frank and witty. This is not a niche book written for just those recovering from a divorce, seeking to find companions, or struggling with marital problems. The section titled "Making Love" presents ideas that even the happiest of couples will find helpful.
I don't buy a lot of books but after browsing a few minutes through Sex and Love for Grownups in a bookstore, I knew I needed to own this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars must have for any married OR single adult!!!, June 25, 2005

This review is from: Sex & Love for Grownups: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Life of Passion (AARP) (Hardcover)
I picked up this book because I look forward to the "Modern Love" columns in my AARP magazine. I expected it to be quick, witty, and entertaining. It met all my expectations, AND MORE. I found that not only did it contain all sorts of advice for my husband and me, but also guidance for my single girlfriends navigating the dating scene in their golden years!! Ms. Foley is "down-to-earth", confronting stereotypes and fears with honesty. There was no "fluff" in this book, NOTHING that made me think "c'mon, that will never happen". I found the advice practical, yet novel, and even inspiring. I walked away thinking that after 35 years I was seeing my relationship in a new light. THANK YOU!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Sex & Love for Grownups: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Life of Passion (AARP) (Hardcover)
Great book: I learned some new "tricks" and enjoyed the read. This short question and answer format was a nice change from the usual help books. It lets you catch a glimpse into the lives (and bedrooms) of real people- allowing you to see that other people are going through this stuff too and there are creative solutions that we may not think of. So many topics are covered, from problems in the bedroom to solutions to pesky in-laws. And my favorite- the "nuclear family war" I first heard of this book and this author in her AARP "Modern Love" column- I like her style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great information made readable and fun., December 3, 2006

There are lots of books on sex out there but this one makes the topic approachable. The Q & A format and the humor throughout the writing make this book a winner for those who want to learn more about intimacy without being embarrassed. It's been fun and insightful to read. I would highly recommend it to my fellow males.

5.0 out of 5 stars way more than advice on improving sex life, December 7, 2006
By

This book is really about helping to improve self esteem as we get older. It is serious and humorous at the same time! This funny collection of answers to questions that we all struggle with (or will some day)gives the reader lots of ideas on how to be more self-accepting and how to put more vitality back into one's life and relationships. This book teaches us how to have more "sexual health" but also how to be fundamentally more happy at every age! Thank-you, Sallie Foley, for writing this no-nonsense guide to better living!

I found it to be a good compendium of age-specific information tackling a lot of issues that could present themselves in a situation involving dating seniors.

4.0 out of 5 stars No nonsense, February 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A nice collection of selected questions and answers to the age-old quest for romance and passion. The occasional side-bar "the Secrets of Long-Lasting Marriage", "the Man Who Invented Sex", among others, were a nice break in the Q&A format. Not specifically a "how-to" as much as an encouraging word for those looking to get back into the dating/romance scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Title Says It All, December 7, 2006
The book's title says it all in a nutshell. Things have changed and it's time we take a good look at ourselves- our attitudes about sex and getting older. There are modern challenges and issues that other generations had not encountered (who could have predicted online dating!?) Modern Love puts a lot of things in perspective for Baby Boomers or any adult looking for some direction. And the good news is... we're living longer and enjoying life and love even more than ever.
