Cool Idea,

After two great cds, Bernstein maybe reaches a little too hard here. The vocals are somewhat annoying and completely unneeded. Medeski is a nice addition at times but this one shines most when the band is kicking and Briggan wails.I hate to say it but this one works better as background music for me than active listening. Still, a weaker Sex Mob disc blows most other cdds out of the water.

If you are a Bond fan this is for you. Many differant varriations on this cd make it a gem. Although, it sometimes goes a little experimental which some people find to be a bit annoying. But those tracks that stick out are GREAT! I suggest buying the cd, but prepared for some acid jazz and experimental jazz.

Bond and Sex = Sex Mob!!,

These guys get my vote for the coolest working band on the planet right now. Taking charts from old Bond movies and giving them that Sex Mob feel translates into one of the most fun and tightest albums of the year. Tony Scher and Kenny Wollensen are one of the best rhythm sections in jazz right now. Steve Bernstein - bubbie, you the man!!

Great Sex Mob de/reconstruction of Bond music. I thought I never wanted to hear "Nobody does it better" ever again. Now, I can't stop playing it. Same goes for "Bond with Bongos"

Brilliant arrangements and performances of the incidental music from the early Bond films. These versions really highlight the quality and "musicality" of the original compositions while re-imagining them in classic Steven Bernstein fashion. This is actually the Sex Mob album I've listened to the most over the years -- probably by a pretty wide margin at this point -- and I find it enthralling and engaging from start to finish.

When I first popped this baby into the cd player I thought "...heh, this really STINKS!!! These guys are WAY OUTTA TUNE!!!"...but I listened on, & caught on. This is ONE HELLUVA cd!!! I play this OFTEN, especially since I love Bond music ...THIS IS A GREAT WACKED-OUT JAZZY & FRESH!!! approach to music which if always listened to can become stale & static, if only by repetition. Buy this...enjoy...

I saw Sex Mob with Medeski at the Knitting Factory in NYC back around 2000 and they played nothing but Bond songs. It was not what I expected walking in but it was an absolutely fantastic show. If this disc is anyhting like the live show, you will be more than satisfied buying the albumn.

Sampling this CD, I thought that this would be the best album to date from this band. So I bought it. Indeed, the sound was bigger than any of the other albums, and the production was better. But what about the content? Well, to be honest, I thought it dragged a little bit. The first track "Dr. Yes" and the fourth track "007" were the highlights for me. They weren't too long, they grooved, and they were very exhilarating. "007" really was great, perhaps the tastiest 7/8 I have ever heard, though the horns were a bit much at times. Some of the songs were mediocre. "This Never Happened" and "Teasing the Korean" really began to bore me after a while. So, defintely not their best, but it's still listenable.

The originals are superior in every way:production, musicianship and arrangement. Buy the real soundtracks instead.
