About the Author

Lori Gruen is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Lafayette College. She has published articles on applied ethics, feminism, and environmental philosophy. George E. Panichas is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Lafayette College. He has published papers on major figures in the history of political philosophy and human rights.

Lori Gruen has been involved in animal issues as a writer, teacher, and activist for over 25 years. Her relationships with scholars thinking about animals, activists working to protect animals, and, perhaps most importantly, with many different animals, uniquely inform her perspective on how we need to rethink our engagement with other animals.
