Hilarious!!!!,
By Stefanie Silvano "Stef" (Houston Heights) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex, Obsession and Murder (Paperback)
This is quite possibly the funniest damn thing I've ever read! I am actually re-reading it now. This time around, I'm reading it out loud to my partner so she can share the experience with me. I swear I don't remember one sex scene in it from my first read, but that only adds to my enjoyment of the book! One would assume a book with the word "sex" in the title, nay, the FIRST WORD of the title, to contain... well, to actually contain sex. Imagine my delight to learn that sex is referred to as "rumpy-pumpy" when it's referred to at all! Of course, there's the all-too-short S&M scene, in which the lead character Lane Stone (Lane Stone! I love it!!) inadvertently stumbles across a closet full of someone's leftover Halloween costumes and immediately makes a completely hilarious assumption that she has discovered an abandoned S&M DEN! Excellent!!
The dialog between characters is nothing short of comedic genius. It's only surpassed by the first-person hilarity of the narcissistic, small-town non sequitur from our leading lady, Lane. One insta-classic that continues to bring me immense joy was delivered by Lane as a climatic finish to a lukewarm argument with her downtrodden husband, at which point Lane shouts, "If I had a d1ck, I'll tell you to suck it!" Sheer perfection! Anyone with a good sense of humor will love this book!!! The plot is completely unique, and wildly implausible. The characters are so completely ridiculous and self-serving, that it's impossible not to rejoice as they bumble through the pages. Get this book! You will not be disappointed!!

Some Sex, Some Murder, and a lot of Obession,

This review is from: Sex, Obsession and Murder (Paperback)
For forty-five year old Mrs. Lane Stone, former police officer, her latest case as a private investigator cuts way too close to home. It begins when her best friend Allison confides in her that she is being stalked by Wanda Woodson. Among other things, Woodson has stolen her underwear, all of it, and written explicit love letters to Allison. But the Houston Police will do nothing without an actual threat of bodily harm or actual proof that Woodson has taken her underwear. Allison's husband, Mark, has only one concern-to keep the Police out of it. Despite the fact that he does not think much of Lane, or apparently women in general, he thinks that a quiet word from Lane in her role of private investigator will solve the problem. To get Lane to cooperate and do something she most likely would have done out of friendship for Allison anyway, Mark is willing to double her fee. While Mark does not think much of his beautiful wife or Lane, he is very concerned with maintaining his wealthy image. An image that begins to crack when within days of involving Lane, Allison is brutally murdered. Devastated by her grief, Lane is shocked to find out that the suspect everyone is looking for, the stalker Wanda Wilson suffering from schizophrenia and erotomanic delusions, clams to be innocent and wants to hire Lane to prove it. Lane agrees despite her misgivings about the stalker and along with the occasional assistance from her husband, Charlie, dives into a world of mental illness, sadomasochism and mafia involvement. This is a very enjoyable read featuring an opinionated private investigator that will appeal more to female than male readers. Occasionally, the writing comes across a bit preachy as action is stopped so that a commentary bordering on sermonizing, often about men and theirs usefulness or lack of same, can be delivered. However, that fault is relatively minor overall and does not overshadow the consistently good plot and character development that leads to a twisting tale of greed and deceit. At 213 pages, this is a fast read and one well worth your consideration. This is a great book and one you won't want to put down! The twists and turns, along with enough suspects to keep you guessing make this a totally enjoyable read. Adele's done a wonderful job - she needs to make Lane Stone into a series!

A Must Read!,

When my wife and I moved to Houston, we found out an author lived nearby. We bought her book, loved it, and knocked on her door. The author was gracious, invited us in and signed my book. We've been friends ever since. I don't have a computer so I asked the author if I could e-mail my friends; I wanted to let everyone know how much I enjoyed reading her book. I don't know how the author will feel when she reads this review, I hope she enjoys it. My wife and I are readers from way back and often disagree about books, but we both recommend Sex, Obsession & Murder. It has been the most entertaining book that we have read in months. My wife loved Lane, the private investigator who is her age (baby-boomer,Ok Lane's a little younger)and we live in the Houston area so she can relate to Lane's "bad hair days." The story was fast-paced, exciting, and kept us on the edge of our seats. The characters were so real, they could be our best friends and worst enemies. When Lane discovered Allison's body my wife had tears running down her face. I loved the little dog (lots of humor)and hated Allison's husband. This book has it all: Great characters, from the MOB BOSS to Lane's husband. It has mystery, suspense, sex and compassion. A definite must read. Thanks, Rolland and Mary Rodriquez

I cannot believe the 5 star reviews that have been given this book. The writing style is so elementary that I believe my middle school grandchildren could do a better job. The sex scenes remind me of something in the 30's. If I could I would rate if a "0" star.
