5.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, December 28, 2009

I am an "ordinary person" looking for more information on the many, many laws being passed against former sex offenders. Do they work at all? What are the reasons politicians and other have been jumping on this "save our children" bandwagon when, from all I can see, these laws aren't really protecting anyone?

This book is GREAT for the purpose! A peer-reviewed book, containing peer-reviewed scholarly articles, which each present a different aspect of the current situation, using data from many, many studies. Safe, reliable data, not just opinions. And it is quite readable by anyone with a decent high school education! I will soon be quoting it widely, in whatever ways I can, as I fight the Adam Walsh Act, SORNA, and other misguided legislation.

Also, the average person may think this book expensive (it's no paperback novel!) but compared to other books of its type which can easily cost twice as much, I can honestly say it is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT RESOURCE ABOUT OUR SEX OFFENDER LAWS, July 20, 2011

Dr. Wright has done America a tremendous service. Our sex offender laws are bloated and NOT SMART. He proves how this happened and why. Those who say they care about children but also care about justice would do well to read this and share it.
Our present sex offender laws have come about by a small number of cases like Jaycee Duggards' and John Walsh's son but the law has grown and become way out of proportion (and made more ineffective) by the public hysteria. This was brought on by a drama-driven media, ala Fox (people like Nancy Grace), American "Justice", unscrupulous politicians and overly zealous prosecutors. Most people don't know or care. It's the newest witch hunt and the children and families of men who have committed minor crimes, crimes that used to be misdemeanors but now are upgraded to felonies, are paying the price. And it's an unending price because if you land on the registry for downloading "child" porn (and it's a sexy 15 or 16 yr. old) what used to be a misdeanor is now a felony and you're on there for LIFE !! If your 19 and have a 15 or 16 yr. old girlfriend, you could be on there for LIFE ! All kinds of minor, non violent crimes are part of the sweeping laws.
Thank you Dr. Wright for your hard work with this enlightening book. Americans who care about justice owe you a great debt.
