5.0 out of 5 stars Best song of this Century!!
The 1st Time I heard Sex On Fire, I was amazed at the sensual vocals. I had to go out and buy EVERY CD put out by Kings of Leon and even their B-Side singles. Caleb Followill has the most unique voice I have ever heard. Their past work really needs to be discovered by the masses. Go out and get Because of the Times, my favorite KOL CD but even Youth and Young Manhood and...

"Sex on Fire" is the overrated pop rock song by the Kings of Leon, as growled by their front man, Caleb. MOST listeners have interpreted this song to be about hot, passionate lovemaking.. when in fact Caleb has said that it's all about STDs, in other words, it's about great balls of fire and the burning bush. The Kings of Leon are attempting to evoke the '70s... without...

Go out and get Because of the Times, my favorite KOL CD but even Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak are both great CDS. Just an incredible body of music. AND don't get me started on their B-Sides... GEMS... that deserve their very own CD... Beneath the Surface and Frontier City!!! soooo great... and so many more B-sides...

4.0 out of 5 stars There's Just Something About It, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Sex On Fire (MP3 Download)
I first heard this song months ago after seeing it on a top something or other chart and listening to it through a download service. I didn't get through the whole thing before turning it off.

Then a couple of days ago, while looking through my cable company's OnDemand menu of all things, I heard it again as part of an advertisement for a concert with behind the scenes interviews. For days, that song haunted me. There's really no other word for it. I couldn't get that wail out of my head. I never was able to find that concert on OnDemand so I ended up back at my download service. I listened to the song again. Not just this song but the entire album.

When you listen to song after song, the band's flaws become obvious even to a tin ear like myself. They don't play that well. Sounds like if they got anything too complicated to play, they'd be in real trouble. The lyrics are often awful if not downright unintelligible. "We'll teach this city to kiss these thighs" (or some such nonsense). And the singer doesn't have that great of a voice. And you can only sometimes understand what's he's singing to begin with.

But you know what? All those "negatives" come together and cancel each other out enough to make a couple of really good songs. The hook is catchy, the music just right and the singer's wail is pitch perfect. (no pun intended).

"Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" are my favorites. But I also enjoyed "Closer", "Revelry" and "17". I ended up buying the entire album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Sex On Fire, December 29, 2010
This review is from: Sex On Fire (MP3 Download)
First off, I must start off this review with some good news. As many know, there have been rumours floating about the various things that this song is about. I wanted to research for myself because the truth seeker in me wanted to know the true meaning of the song after I read both the positive and negative reviews for this song. The positive news is that it is a fact that this song implies a pleasing sexual relationship with excellent sex that is always going to be happily permanent in someone's mind. I got this information from songfacts.com, where it quotes the lead singer (Caleb Followill) directly stating in the September 19, 2008 issue of The Sun newspaper that this song is about (in Caleb's own words: "It's about a great sexual relationship with hot, hot sex that you remember for ever.") Many who read this review are going to correctly argue that the lyrics in the song are very obvious (and straightforward) that it is about good sex in an equally fun sexual relationship. However, it was important to me to share where I obtained my information for anyone else that wanted to find the meaning of the song straight from any articles that ask the direct source (the lead singer Caleb Followill), and because of the rumours flying around regarding the song's meaning. This song has very strong guitar riffs, and I enjoyed the daring lyrics that were utilized in the song (such as when he sings about what he pictures happening when he is driving). The video is very good as well. The obvious way to decide if you are going to want to buy this song is if you are comfortable and fine with listening to a song that illustrates the fun and good side of a strictly sexual relationship of how it feels to have sex with someone who is talented in giving such pleasure (in addition to liking rock music). I say this only because the best way to tell if you are going to enjoy this song is if you are open-minded to listening to the fun and joyful side of what it feels like to be in what is strictly a pleasurable sexual relationship.

The Kings of Leon are attempting to evoke the '70s... without its disco fabulousness. They attempt to be macho, when they sound more like uncouth drunks who'd get kicked out by a bouncer. The instrumental (oh, the irony) on this song is MUCH BETTER than the lyrics and the singing. The Kings of Leon should stick to playing their instruments, so to speak. Their singing is UNSEXY and leads to Celebrating Celibacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good old fashion rock n roll, January 29, 2009
This review is from: Sex On Fire (MP3 Download)
The first time I heard Sex On Fire I was captivated. It had a nice sound, killer guitars and made me think of a polished Black Crows. I bought the entire cd and was very impressed but Sex On Fire is really the big stand out. I have played this song at least 20 times on my MP3 player and still enjoy it. It is as though the Kings of Leon are screaming at me thru car speakers to turn it up!!!! Believe me you are not wasting your dollar if you purchase the MP3 single.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Song Is On Fire!, January 24, 2009
This review is from: Sex On Fire (MP3 Download)
With no qualms (it's kind of like a doubt or misgiving) about sharing how his girlfriend makes him feel in the bedroom, Kings of Leon makes it's big leap onto the indie/alternative/brit rock stage with this certainly interesting number. But while other mainstream artists might have taken this song as some controversial mess (you know who I'm talking about), Kings of Leon makes this more of an artsy tune than anything else.

The band themselves has a great classic rock feel to them, with the lead vocalists sounding like a throwback to the more unpolished rock gods of the 60s/70s/80s. The resulting sound that the band gives the song is almost a classic rock feel, complete with verses you can hardly understand, and a simple but impactful chorus.

So overall, props to the Kings of Leon for putting up a good effort that's a good throwback to Rock N' Roll's earlier days, while putting up a solid song for today. Granted, it may take a few listens to come around to liking it, but all hail Kings of Leon!
