The Sex Pistols may have only been together for two years in the late '70s, but they changed the face of popular music. Through their raw, nihilistic singles and violent performances, the band revolutionized the idea of what rock & roll could be. The Sex Pistols were the archetypal punk band, and one of the most important and iconic groups in rock history. Punk-rock had already been suggested as a musical style by the likes of The Stooges, MC5 and the New York Dolls, but it took off in the mid-70s with Patti Smith, Ramones and The Sex Pistols.
