3.0 out of 5 stars Humorous read but impractical
Heimel writes in an irreverant, quirky style which makes for an entertaining read. Some of the advice, however, seems impractical and outdated (condoms are condemned and the diaphragm is upheld as the best birth control). The Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll Diet which extols the virtues of cocaine and quaaludes seems straight out of the early 80's drug-chic culture...

I first read this book about ten years ago not long after I had graduated from college. My eye was caught by a rather provacative cover. I randomly picked a page and before having finished the first paragaph, was laughing out loud. I quickly chose another section of the book and likewise was again laughing out loud. Moreover, her understanding of my sex was uncanny. There was great pleasure knowing that a woman so unearringly had captured the masculine psyhe. For years afterward when I would find myslef in a difficult phase in a relationship, I would reread the book. This never failed to give me faith that is was possible for a man and woman to truly umderstand each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zen And The Art Of Cynthia Heimel, December 16, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
In the fit of a boy depression, a very good friend, and fellow chick, handed me this book. I expected sappy, slightly erotic stories. I got not only good advice, but an instant pick me up that works still. Heimel writes for no generation of women but for all real women. If you want it all, but know you'll never be able to handle it, or if you want to get married and have kids, but know you'll keep your sense of self along the way, this is for you. It's not for those out there who loose themselves in relationships (and like it), but those who want reminders on how not to do that. It's also good for those times when dating seems just too much. Read this and you'll remember what it's all about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Crazy After All These Years, February 13, 2005
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
During my freshman year of college one of my friends gave me this book for my birthday. I was slightly shocked to receive it, but after one week it was well worn through by nearly every girl on our floor. It wasn't really so much about sex but more about being a single woman and dealing with things like being boy crazy and whining about the lack of quality men.

Two years later, when I turned 21, my older brother gave me this book for my birthday. And then two years after that, I saw it in a Munich bookstore in the very slim English books section. Obviously it was a popular book.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the material is somewhat dated. It's still quite a fun read. If you don't take it seriously as a true "sex tips" manual, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tips we all NEED to hear in a style we can all STAND to hear, May 7, 1999

Delicious blend of decidedly helpful advice and dirty (yet delightful) interspersions of fun! She makes the uneasiness about even the purchase of a book entitled "Sex Tips..." disappear. Overall, wonderful tips in a cute style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute and informative - Great combination for a book., September 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
I bought a box of books from auction and found this one among them. As I was sorting out the books, I had the curiousity to start reading this one. Well, I totally forgot I was sorting out other books and got myself totally immersed in reading "Sex Tips for Girls". The tips are written with humor but with great emphasis with the importance of the subject. The only other tip the book did not mention is let your husband/boyfriend read it as well. My husband love this book more than I do :-).

5.0 out of 5 stars Heimel Rules, April 6, 2000
By
Julius (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
This book was ground-breaking when it first appeared in 1983. Seventeen years later, Heimel still matters. She matters because what she says is important, and it's also funny. She matters because when you read her you want to hang out with her - if you're a guy you want to date her and if you're a chick you want to cruise with her. Heimel even has guidelines on when a guy can say "chick". Her work marks a highwater mark in the war between the sexes - rarely have such sensitive issues been addressed with such grace and wit - Heimel Rules! - Julius, NYC

3.0 out of 5 stars Humorous read but impractical, January 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
Heimel writes in an irreverant, quirky style which makes for an entertaining read. Some of the advice, however, seems impractical and outdated (condoms are condemned and the diaphragm is upheld as the best birth control). The Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll Diet which extols the virtues of cocaine and quaaludes seems straight out of the early 80's drug-chic culture. Helen Fielding seems to emulate Heimel's characteristic burned out, sexually jaded woman in Bridget Jones Diary. It's not nearly as naughty as the cover suggests but, in the end, is a lighthearted romp through sex and dating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tips for Women of All Ages, June 5, 2002
By
"harlembaby" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
This book should be required reading for every woman on the planet who even THINKS she may have sex with a man! I've used the tips myself and the segment on 'How to be Blindingly Beautiful' was dead on!

I just have one tip to add: don't lend your copy to ANYONE! I just bought my third copy and this time it's not leaving my house!

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious fun reading, May 14, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex Tips For Girls (Paperback)
A girlfriend handed this book to me before I got on a train to go back home after an amazing weekend. The train ride went by pretty fast! I laughed aloud so often and knew I was being stared at while reading this funny titled book. Even though it was written a while ago, the book has a certain flavor that is addictive. Heimel's personality and writing style is contagious. Her views on menn are garunteed to keep all ages of women laughing out loud! A must read!!!! I would read more if I could find them! If anyone has a review for other books of hers, or similar ones, please let me know!
