A powerful book which is the basic text for S.A. This text provides the most in depth and comprehensive strategies for overcoming sexual addiction and dependency. The book opens with a powerful story of one man's recovery and how the program works. A synopsis of the addictive process is outlined. Then the 12 steps of S.A. are outlined (adapted from A.A) as well as practical suggestions for applying them in your life. A must read for anyone struggling with lust or sexual addiction.

This review is from: Sexaholics Anonymous (Paperback)
This is the manual used for sexaholics anonymous meetings. The book outlines the purpose for sexaholics anonymous, an explanation of sexual sobriety, and steps to take in recovery from sexual addiction. The chapter on the spiritual basis of addiction is especially powerful. This book is not for the general public, but for the individual who realizes his or her sexual behavior is out of control, and who feels powerless to stop lusting or "acting out" sexually, the principles outlined in this book are life-changing.

True Sobriety,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sexaholics Anonymous (Paperback)
... SA, and the book, holdto a definition of sexual sobriety that is solidly Christian. As a result, the book offers real help and hope for those of us who haven't found a solution through relativistic values definition.

Carne's books are better,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sexaholics Anonymous (Paperback)
There is nothing in this book that isn't covered better and in greater detail in Patrick Carne's books or A.A.'s Big Book. The author's (who founded the S.A. organization) world is one where men and women adhere to strict gender roles and there is no room for homosexual relationships or heteros who 'shack up.' The SA organization recently changed its sobriety definition to clearly state that spouse means a married partner of the opposite sex. Last time I checked, Tradition Three did not say "the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop lusting and only have married, heterosexual relationships." While other "S" groups help members repair and redirect their potentially destructive habits, SA seems intent on suggesting its members repress those urges and replace them with a more Christian-oriented view of sex. The author makes liberal use of "member quotes" that are suspiciously alike in structure and content, making me suspect that these quotes are entirely the authors. I don't mean to bash SA--the organization. It was instrumental in my recovery. Without it I could very likely be in prison right now. It's the book I'm not crazy about. As a recovering sexual addict, I find A.A.'s Big Book and Hope and Recovery contain everything I need to live a life free of addictive behavior. The author's thinly-veiled fundamentalist agenda undercuts what could have been a landmark work. Read this book. Then read Hope and Recovery. Then compare and decide which is best for you.

This book is not in any way Christian!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sexaholics Anonymous (Paperback)
It adheres to the broader principles of spiritual growth outlined in the A.A. Big Book, which calls for each individual to define the nature of a Higher Power for him or herself. Simply defining sobriety narrowly as no sex with self or anyone other than one's spouse is simply a way to get away from the problem of having a program where everybody gets to make up their own definition of sobriety. God, yes. Sobriety, no.
