Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

This time out, the French diva's husky voice sounds far more lived-in, mature, passionate, and vehement than ever before. It's safe to say that her previous albums only gave an inkling of her true capabilities. Yes, the arrangements are frequently overblown and bombastic; that hasn't changed but somehow it doesn't matter because this singer has finally come into her own. Like her glamorous predecessors, Damia and Edith Piaf (the context may be different but the baton has been claimed), she has an uncanny ability to flatten the listener with vulnerability, to attract by going too far, to make sophistication appear naive and born of the moment. Perhaps this is part of her native culture's flair for rendering artifice so seductive that it becomes an end in itself, but it's also true that few cabaret traditions can approach how the French describe the raw, heedless depths of sexual obsession. --Christina Roden

5.0 out of 5 stars Back and Better than Ever?, February 10, 2004

Piano Bar was a major let down, a poor duplication of signature songs by Shirley Bassey, Streisand and Sinatra. Here, Kaas is back with her own amazing style, language and voice. With this album, her stature as Continental Europe's first lady of song should be ensured.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best yet, November 29, 2004

This review is from: Sexe Fort (Audio CD)
Having first discovered Patricia Kaas from the film 'And Now...Ladies and Gentlemen' I was immediately overwhelmed by her voice and her singing style in the musical segments of that film.

This album, released in 2003, shows that Patricia has saved her best for last. The first time I heard it I was taken by the way she has effortlessly changed style. From lush arrangements and heavy production to a bare, stripped-down style. The songs, and her voice, are full of anguish and longing. One doesn't need to understand the French language thoroughly to realise that this is an album of love and loss.

I can only but recommend this as being her best work, and the best new album I have heard in quite a few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, January 1, 2004

I like this CD much better than the Piano Bar CD that was recently released. This CD has Patricia Kaas singing with much more energy and passion and the music is excellent!

If you enjoyed any of Patricia Kaas' other CDs, don't miss this one!
