This well annotated and translated group of excerpts of the works of Sextus Empiricus will provide the curious reader with a great look at the basis of Skepticism - as a philosophy, and well as demonstrate the effectiveness of skeptical thought and logic in the discourses on Man and God, as well as the existence of time itself.

The skeptic, of which Sextus Emipiricus is probably the exemplar from which we derive most of our written work, believed that it was logically almost impossible to hold a dogmatic view on anything that could not be proven without a shadow of a doubt - and thus used the ability to logically argue both sides of a position as proof that the position being argued could not be absolute and dogmatic truth.

The writings of Sextus Empiricus are not an easy read, but for those looking for a window on skepticism and some of the techniques and modes of skeptical thought, this is a great resource.

I bought this for my philosophy class, and it seems to do well. The Hackett versions seem to be well organized.
