Grade 7 Up. It is difficult to imagine a more confusing presentation. Readers are bombarded throughout with definitions, examples, and facts that are unclear and internally inconsistent with the subject matter. Reinert seems unable to stick to the topics as outlined, providing haphazard footnotes and neglecting to define the terminology he uses. He also makes certain unsupported assertions that prompt readers to question his goals. For instance, the author states, "Police officers know that Hispanic and African cultures have different social rules about touch between adults and children, but they also know there are some forms of touch that are clearly not acceptable." What is he saying? Many statements need further clarification if readers are to understand the topic and where the author is coming from. Margaret Hyde and Elizabeth Forsyth's The Sexual Abuse of Children and Adolescents (Millbrook, 1997) and Deborah Miller and Pat Kelly's Coping with Incest (Rosen, 1995) are far better books on this topic.?Melissa Gross, Beverly Hills Public Library, CA
