Book Description

April 1990
This expanded edition of Sexual Healing examines every known sexual problem and all possible treatments, including many that are new and experimental. The book includes more than 125 exercises for specific problems — including premature ejaculation, female sexual arousal disorder, low sexual desire, and sexual aversion — as well as a new section on advanced sexual healing for physical, emotional, and spiritual problems. Written by a sex therapist and surrogate partner with over 20 years experience, the book reflects the wisdom that comes from her unique perspective as a pioneer in the field of sexuality.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Sexual Healing is Hunter House’s latest Positively Sexual book. Positively Sexual books are a growing series of self-help sexuality titles, with currently 12 titles in print. As the name suggests, Positively Sexual books approach sex as something natural, pleasurable, and healthy. They aim to broaden people's perspectives, and they contain accurate, practical information, handled responsibly. They address subject matter, topics or issues that are not often addressed or are covered inadequately in other sex books. We do not publish offensive content, including (but not limited to) homophobia, sexism, and sexual stereotypes. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Whether you're a man or a woman, a couple or flying solo, having trouble mentally or physically, this book is the best book I've found that gives not only explanations, but step-by-step exercises to help overcome many types of sexual dysfunction.

The author uses her practical experience along with her educational background to provide a practical guide for people seeking help in the area of sexual healing. The book is also a great guide for counselors who are working with couples encountering sexual issues in their relationships.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I had to waste my time and money!, October 18, 2011
I have long studied sexuality, the disorders, the cultures, and all other related things and I have read very few things that have been so useless. The beginning is a basic sex ed class, which is great for the people who have little or no knowledge of the parts and functions. As the book progresses into explaining the disorders and her exercises I got increasingly aggitated and angry that I had been forced to read it for my Masters level Sex Therapy class. The descriptions of the actual disorders were easy to read and fairly self-explanatory, but by the time I got to the exercises she suggested I was beginning to be irritated. All "exercises" are the same repeated over and over throughout the entire book, whether it is meant to be done alone or with your heterosexual partner. Just when I thought she had finally quit repeating the same things by chapter 28 and 29 I learn that she is even less helpful then I had previously thought. In one section she stated that women who have low sexual desire should wait until they have a partner to try to use products or techniques to increase their libido, but men were left out of this suggestion completely. During the exercises women were repeatedly told to pleasure the man for their own enjoyment. I felt that the notion that a women should take such great pleasure in touching her male partner was a bit misguided. Which is great unless this does not necessarily turn you on enough to no longer be labled as having a "disorder." Yes, she does tell the male partner to perform sensate exercises on his partner for his own satisfaction, but I felt that she didn't quite push the notion like she did with women needing to please their men. Men were first, period. In order for a woman with a sexual arousal disorder to work to change it she should have her male partner lay down with his eyes closed and she would then explore his body, and if she were lucky he might want to engage in some touching of his own. Seriously!? She was a sex surrogate with anxiety issues about "everything but sex" and was able to help other people with anxiety overcome it while she was having the same unattached sexual encounters "to help them" that she advised other women not to have. This book was a pathetic joke and I HATE that I had to read it. I quit at chapter 30 because I was so frustrated by overly stated, and sadly misguided advice. SAVE YOUR MONEY LADIES... unless you live to please him or he is the one with the sexual disorder, not you!!!
