Sexy? Yep. Beast? Yep, that too., June 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sexy Beast (Audio CD)
For anyone recently lucky enough to skip those awful summer movies now showing (like "The Fast And The Furious" or that one with "Fish" in the title: you know, the one with John Travolta looking like a rodent went to the bathroom on his chin) and lucky enough to chance upon the British crime drama "Sexy Beast" you'll be doubly pleased to find its soundtrack is a worthwhile piece of art all its own. The film plays with the bright sun and hefty drizzle of two entirely different atmospheres (Spain and London) as does the soundtrack, balancing the clear blue lines of Dean Martin-esque cool with the red, blazing, claustrophobic intensity of clubs, hip-hop, and Big Beats. It's a stunning combination. The moods are sly and surprising as much as they feel warm and familiar, much like the twisting genres of "Sexy Beast" the film. Do yourself a favor. See the film. Then do something rare afterward -- own a soundtrack worth owning.

Oh no, not again!!!, September 25, 2001
This review is from: Sexy Beast (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is just the latest victim of a horrible concept: mixing dialogue from a movie with its soundtrack. If the dialogue cuts were separate from the tracks, maybe I could handle it by skipping the talk, but this one overlays the dialogue onto the tracks, much as they are timed in the movie. I am sick and tired of this trend. Plenty of soundtracks have been ruined for me in this manner, from Pulp Fiction to Desperado. Confound it, if I want to hear dialogue, I will buy the... movie and watch the appropriate sections. Cut this ... out!!! I buy a soundtrack for the MUSIC, not so I can "relive the magic of the film", or some such garbage. Sexy Beast is a great movie and contains a fantastic compilation of tunes, both techno and lounge, and I had hoped to have them all on what promised to be a great CD. I can pass on this absurdity.

I disagree...this is a most excellent soundtrack!, January 1, 2003
This review is from: Sexy Beast (Audio CD)
I saw the movie, and went and bought the CD. The dialogue with the soundtrack is perfect and maintains the movie all the more. The soundtrack is a mix of different music, but it is mostly the burning intense UNKLE tracks of industrial-techno that hooked me. Some how this soundtrack fits perfectly next to my copy of the soundtrack for A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. It is somehow very similar.
