Biography

Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip To The Moon) is a classic silent film by revered French director Georges Méliès. Released in 1902, this legendary 16-minute film is widely considered one of the most important works in film history, and the very first to use science fiction as its theme, incorporating special effects that were very state-of-the-art at the turn of the 19th century. It was loosely… Read more in Amazon's Air Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Boy, July 14, 2004
By
This review is from: Sexy Boy (Audio CD)
"Sexy Boy" is what got me into the French duo Air. I was first exposed to this song when I actually saw the video on MTV back in the late '90s (when MTV still played music videos) and it was during the daytime too. I wasn't really into dance music at the time so this was completely a new sound for me in terms of dance music. I just flipped over the infectious melodies and synthesized dance beats. I didn't mind the repetitive lyrics so much. I just loved the melody and I still do to this very day. So I bought the single (another relic from the past) which contained remixes of "Sexy Boy" and a previously unreleased track called "Jeanne". The remixes weren't bad but I definitely preferred the original version of the song. Of all the remixes, I have to say that the Etienne De Crecy & The Flower Pistols remix is my favorite of the three. It stayed closest to the original version. As for the b-side "Jeanne", I definitely enjoyed that song. The airy, acoustic melodies of the song was a nice contrast from the mechanical feelings of "Sexy Boy". The female vocals were a nice touch. A gorgeous song overall. Despite its flaws, I like to pop in this single every now and then.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great song - good remixes, May 17, 2002

I got turned onto Air a few years ago when I heard that Madonna liked them, and I've become a big fan too. "Sexy Boy" is definitely one of Air's catchiest songs, and about as close to pop-dance as they get. It sounds terrific on their debut album (Moon Safari), and the remixes here are very good. The highlight is the Sex Kino mix, which was done by Beck. It includes an odd sound bite of a person biting into an apple (?). It's kind of bizarre, but it works and really does sound sexy. In addition to these remixes, Air includes a B-side - "Jeanne." The lyrics are sung in French by Francoise Hardy, and it fits in nicely with their overall sound. If you like "Sexy Boy," then please check out "Moon Safari," which is one of the best techno albums ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Sexy! But It Grows On You., October 14, 2001

Wow, this single is jam packed with great remixes. I love the added track Jeanne! All the remixes are very different from the original. I love that, why remix something that sounds like the radio edit? I'm not a Beck fan, but his remix is wounderful, and so is Cassus's (it really has a great synth bassline). But the Crown Victoria of the remixes would have to be the Etienne de Crecey version. It blew me away, its longer and more abstract than the original! Jeanne is a great added track to have, nice string arrangment on that track. It's a great purchase.
