5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, sturdy and easy to use
I've built three racks with this product, and am in the process of building 5 more. With six Wolmanized (chemically treated to resist rot and insects) 2x4's (about $9), a few lag bolts ($6), a hand saw and an electric drill, you can create a rack that will take years of abuse and hold an amazing amount of firewood. Time to build a rack...less than 30 minutes!

3.0 out of 5 stars To Do It Right
These brackets are a good idea for stacking fire wood. You need OVERSIZE 2x4's for a good fit and stability.
Oversize lumber is hard to get, Home Depot and other lumber outlets here do not have oversize lumber.
Consequently, I had to shim and put spacers in the gaps that result in using regular 2x4's. I also used lag bolts throughout and also bolted cross pieces...

I also used lag bolts throughout and also bolted cross pieces on the uprights that hold the wood. This gives better stability and strength. Since my stack was over 7 feet long, I put a couple of 3 inck cement blocks under the runners to support the weight of the wood.

I am pleased with the final result, but disappointed that the project was so much work - due in part to brackets that did not fit my lumber well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bracket are OK but need help .. more like assembly helpers, September 1, 2007

I like these brackets but they are in principal just assembly helpers. I made a scaffold using them and for this purpose they worked well for me. By using the brackets I will be able to take apart the scaffold and re-assemble it easily. I used Kreg wood screws to assemble and added robust cross bracing and OSB decking so the stability issue was resolved. Without cross bracing the stability of the assembly was poor. Also the holding power of the Kreg screws and the easy disassembly they make possible are the key factor in making my project possible. If all you need is a static assembly to hold firewood then spend the money on treated 4 by 4's, 2X6's and bolts and forget the brackets.

We love this product. We live in the country and have 10 wood racks on our property. This is such an easy and stable piece to use. The only change we made is to put a board across the end pieces to keep them stable

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but design and instruction flaws, September 2, 2008

They do what is advertised and make a sturdy rack. Because you cut the wood, you can customize the size exactly to your needs. That's great. The price is an added plus, since you can make a large log rack for about $25, including the lumber.

However, there are a couple of things that prevent a better rating:

1) The holes on each bracket line up with each other. That means that when you pound nails in from each side, the nails hit or come very close. That leads to splitting of the board.

2) The directions don't mention pre-drilling holes. Pre-drilling would probably help the first problem, although still would not solve it. The company should offset the holes a bit to correct this flaw.

I am not the handiest of men, but these made my firewood rack project simple. It will not necessarily be cheaper to build your own rack, but you can build a much sturdier one, and to your specifications. Vendor fulfilled the order promptly.

I purchased these items for stacking wood, I ended up just using 2 for each end with 4' up and 4' across bottom with wood stacked on it which supports the end of the stack as I was stacking one end up against a building and just needed 1 side so to speak,
Unit went together well but is definatly sized for use with pressure treated wood, as it is oversized.
Using regular 2x4's you will need to do a bit of "shimming to keep it tight.
other than that unit was relatively easy to construct and is a great answer for stacking wood, steal outlasts plastic especially when it gets to 10 degree's out and the plastic units fall apart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile bracket, August 9, 2008

I used these brackets to build a firewood rack. These brackets are very easy to use, however I found it rather difficult to make sure the vertical 2x4's were in fact plumb. This required some clamping (etc) before drilling holes for the bolts. I haven't yet stacked wood on the rack, but I'm certain the weight of the wood will cause the vertical 2x4's to lean out. To counter that I added a frame of 2x4s on top that will provide much more support as well as a pitched "roof." For the price this is a good value, although, like I said, it does require some extra work if you want something really solid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seymour 30-360 Stack It Brackets, July 10, 2008

Brackets worked out very well for outdoor stacking of firewood. Used pressure treated 2 x 4s (8 feet long at base) and built the height to 5 feet (only 4 feet is recommended for height). To give added strength I added a 2 x 4 cross piece (from left over scrap) at the top of each end and then added 2 - 8 foot boards on top of the cross pieces. With the top boards the unit is very solid. My wife says the structure looks like a bunk bed.
The addition to the top not only gives the overall structure more strength, but I now have a surface to store kindling on and a tarp will fit over the whole thing more neatly during the winter.

Note: The instructions recommend a cross piece UNDER the bottom span to help support the wood stack. I would make this mandatory, especially since I am building mine 1 foot higher than recommended (wood is very heavy). I am actually thinking of using 2 equally spaced supports under the bottom span in future builds just in case.
If you have spare pressure treated 4 x4s lying around you could use them for the bottom cross pieces in the brackets as well as the span supports. That probably would help extend the life of the structure by raising it farther above ground.

Definitely recommend these brackets. I have ordered 5 more to finish stacking the 3+ cords of wood I have. I really like the flexibility these brackets offer so I can vary the design as needed.

We bought 3 bracket sets for firewood and assembled them to 8 ft in length by 4 ft in height. They do not come with screws so you will need to buy 1" and 2-1/2" wood screws. Some of the 2x4's were slightly too wide to fit the slots easily and had to be shaved. They do a good job of holding lots of firewood. We also stacked wood against the ends outside the frame.
