4.0 out of 5 stars A decent pickup, but perhaps not for you, August 14, 2010
This review is from: Seymour Duncan SH8 Invader Humbucker Pickup (Bridge)
Hey everybody, here we've got a nifty little pickup. Believe it when people exaggerate about it's output. This thing is all about the mids and will push your rig pretty nicely.

However, you REALLY REALLY need to pay attention to what guitar you're dropping this thing into, because even by itself alone - it's a muddy mess. This thing can achieve good clean tones, but it's very specific in it's tone. Don't expect clarity from this thing, it's not built for it. On seyduncs site they've this listed on the tone charts for Bass-6 Mids-8 Treble-4 (I believe that's correct)

Tbh I really wanted to trade this thing in, as I said - the tone can become a muddy mess, but alot of people seem to like it. You will defintely get ahold of a thicker tone with this sucker. But to me, it comes off more as a one-trick pony. Jazz players will love this thing simply because it tries to act like a neck pickup with all of it's bass output, but don't expect to be able to hear any articulation or character from your strings, even I can tell it sucks the life out of a new set of strings compared to other pups. Metal heads will enjoy the chugs they can get out of this thing as well. You can work out a decent lead from it.

If you're going to DI record your guitar and use software for your tone, beware - this thing isn't entirely fantastic as far as clean dry signals go, you WILL have to adjust to it - as this thing has a particular way in which it takes to things. But it's definitely doable, just expect to be sitting in front of your screen tweaking things for a bit if you're picky.
I'll be keeping it nontheless, and drop it into another guitar that's a bit brighter than my current one.

Gotta love the look, either you love it or ya hate it :)

dropped this badboy into my samick custom. what a difference...replacing the stock pickup made me want to play again. you could toss this mother into a 2x4 and it would sound like a metal machine of doom......

4.0 out of 5 stars i like it, December 12, 2011

This review is from: Seymour Duncan SH8 Invader Humbucker Pickup (Bridge)
I really do, some people have reviewed this Pup as being muddy, but i find that small tweaks to the guitars vol knob, and the amount of distortion on the gain channel of the amp could do away with this. Now if you want to sound like a god of metal doom, just crank everything up full, but if you want just slight distortion on the clean channel, you can get that too. Just play with settings, and you can get tons of tone from this Pup.
