This is an excellent all around brush an nusinance wood tool. It will chop, dig out roots, and effectively trim small to large woody plants with ease and speed. It sharpens easily and remains so for extended periods of hard use. Every home owner deserves to have one in his tool invetory.

First off,for $9.90,I didn't expect much.
And sure enough,"not much" is what I got. It arrived today,in a package big enough for a deer rifle; the side of the box was bashed in. The Cane Knife wasn't damaged; just an absolute piece of Chinese crap. But when I had checked Seymour Manufacturing's website before ordering,it plainly stated this was 'made in the USA.' Donna in Customer Service @ Seymour said:"No,they've been made in China for quite awhile now....No,we just haven't gotten around to changing our website to reflect that." Putting aside the fact that this POS is helping support the Chinese Red Army,it's also quite a POS. Handle fit is abysmal;three rivets, which are off-centered,and the absolute worst job I've ever seen when it comes to grinding a bevel on the blade! Unfair to call that a bevel;I've seen sharper edges on car bumpers. I'm disappointed that Amazon is selling this POS,and I'm upset that Seymour did nothing to let people know they are putting their name on this absolute POS! Two other bummers here: my Dad owned one,20+ years ago, when they were still made by an American outfit up in Indiana...it was a tool! Wish I could find it.Had 5 rivets in a fitted hickory handle; was easy to get shaving-sharp...even the curlicue 'hook' on top was sharp. Other bummer is: would cost at least $6-$7 to send it back. So I'll pitch it in the dumpster. Buyer Beware!

Received this cane cutter and it is not bad for the price. The handle is two slabs of wood riveted to the sides the blade which leaves a space all around the handle. On my cutter the wood handle slabs were not even, one was higher than the other. I had to sand the handle slabs even to get a comfortable grip. There are 3 rivets in the handle not 5 as stated in the description. I ended up filling the space between the handle slabs with wood filler and then sanded and coated with poly varnish. Very comfortable handle now. Looking at other brands they all seem to be the same type of construction perhaps, some are made with more care.

best grilling tool ever,
This review is from: Seymour Mfg. 2P-CN13 Cane Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
i bought this as a bbq accessory and i couldnt be happier. its great for flipping and cutting the meat, lifting grates, and stacking charcoal. the only thing i'd say is make sure you dry it off and oil it after washing or it will quickly rust. a quality product at a great price!

This cane knife makes an excelent BBQ tool. It can be used to move hot grates and prepare meats. The flat side of the knife can serve as a spatula.

I lived for 9 years on the Pacific island of Guam. Guam is a green and beautiful place that's hot every day of the year and the greenery grows every minute. The most common hand tool on Guam is the machete. The locals can use them with precision. I, not being a local, felt uncomfortable with the length of a machete. I found it difficult to control, especially in tight quarters. I also found it difficult to hack with enough power to cut a heavy branch in a limited swing space. Then I discovered the cane knife, though in Guam I was told it was a banana knife. It's relatively short so it doesn't require a lot of swinging room and I felt it was less likely to be deflected by interfering branches or other objects. Second, it concentrates its mass in a short area. It hits hard. While we lived on Guam, my young son (early teen)did a lot of lawn mowing and yard work. The short, heavy cane knife was a favorite of his and he preferred it over the machete. And, no, he never hurt himself or anyone else with it because it was easy to control. As written elsewhere, they usually don't come with a scary-sharp edge on the blade. That can be cleaned up readily enough.

no complaint against the product but...,

Amazon doesn't carry the Tramontina cane knife that I wanted but this was similar enough, I figured I'd give it a go. The blade had to be sharpened, but that's expected and went easily enough. Other reviews complained about the handle/gap design but I found no issue with this. It's comfortable to hold and use. The blade seems tough and didn't suffer any damage from hacking at large bamboo stocks. The hook seems somewhat useless (maybe it is meant to be sharpened?) but does provide a nice hook to hang it by.
My main complaint isn't really a fault of the product but against this style of machete. It's short and heavy, almost like a meat cleaver or a lightweight axe. It doesn't cut thru branches that my longer standard machete will, it just doesn't build up enough speed. I got this with yard maintenance in mind since my regular machete stays in my car now. I'm not really sure what I'll do with it now... maybe use it to flip burgers as another reviewer mentioned.

Saw them in use on Maui and had to have one. Can be used to carve up a pineapple, dispatch a large fish, open a coconut or chop a path through the jungle. A sheath option would be nice, but duct take and cardboard solved the problem in short order. For the price, fit and finish is well above average. The factory edge is nothing to rave about. A few licks with a stone, file, Etc. can take care of this.

This cane knife is an excellent tool for clearing underbrush where a machete is too light, and an ax too unwieldy. The cost is not exorbitant.
