1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage Wireless Technology, Poor Customer Service from Mad Catz, April 29, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sfiv Fightpad PS3 - Assorted (Video Game)
I received two FightPads as a gift in February, 2009 (the month of its release).
Within a few weeks, one FightPad was completely malfunctioning- a defective D-Pad (downward direction glitch).
The other FightPad worked OK when used by itself; However, when playing with two FightPads simultaneously, they would interfere with one another and lose their signals (obviously, this is not a good thing to happen during fighting games).
I contacted Mad Catz, via their website. I was assured that it was an issue with the USB dongles- Mad Catz mailed me two complimentary USB dongles.
The issue continued and became progressively worse.
I once again contacted Mad Catz. This time, they requested I mail the controllers back, along with a receipt, in order to be covered by the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. I explained to Mad Catz that the FightPads were a gift, and that I had no receipt.
I also explained that the controllers were released in February of 2009. It was still the year 2009, so how could the 1 year warranty be over?
Apparently my logic was too much for Mad Catz to handle. They refused to help me without a receipt.

The design of the FightPad is excellent, but the malfunctioning wireless technology is inexcusable.
Furthermore, I am disappointed with the way Mad Catz handled my situation.
I've spent a lot of money on their products throughout the years- shame on them.

1.0 out of 5 stars If only it worked, May 1, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

I bought two of this pads, one for me and one to give it as a gift to a friend of mine. One of the pads stopped working on the same day I opened the box. If I press more than one button or if I press a diagonal the control momentarily loses connection to the USB dongle. This is a waste of money and time. Save yourself the headache and don't buy this piece of crap. I hope the other one lasts longer than a day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great design but...., August 8, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sfiv Fightpad PS3 - Assorted (Video Game)
The controller has a fantastic design with fantastic buttons. It has great art on the front of it too. It's nice and big, so your hands don't cramp over it. However, the wireless is utterly horrible. I dunno what possessed MadCatz to decide to use 2.4 Ghz for their wireless frequency. The PS3 has a built-in wireless G running at (you guessed it) 2.4 ghz. So, playing online with this controller is a big no no. Heck, if you have neighbors, using the controller is a big fat no. Tons of wireless networks will interfere with it because it talks on a frequency typically cluttered by wireless signals. What would happen is that your character will begin to perform moves on their own or twitch. This isn't so bad on some games, but when playing fighting games online, its an utter nightmare. Fighting games require that you're able to pull off attacks at the precise moment in time. That precision determines whether you win or lose in a game. However, when you're pulling off a combo that will finish your opponent off and win you the match, the controller will make your character twitch right in the middle and you'll lose the entire game. It won't just happen one time; it'll happen ALL the time. The wireless is just really really bad.

Just recently, the controller died on me. Now, I can't press the right directional on the d-pad. Wow. What a controller.

I originally bought this controller because of the decent reviews from game websites. However, after playing with this controller for a few months, I simply cannot recommend it. Perhaps the Xbox 360 version is better because it uses the wire; I dunno. However, this controller's wireless makes the controller completely unusable. I'm not too concerned about it dying (I've had many controllers die on me); but the fact that it did die without ANY damage to it lets me know how crap this controller is.
