Buckle your seat belt as author Bill Clarkson takes you for an emotional roller coaster ride with the strong, the weak, and his endearing characters as their lives reconnect through the 6 degrees of separation set on the wealthy San Francisco bay area and its neighboring coastal vacation spots. Until the last page, this swift moving saga takes as many turns as the river it is name after, “Shabaikai”. Worthy of a place on a collector’s shelf, this historical novel is a timeless read and reread.

Very enjoyable story. Clarkson weaves his tale and unfurls events with straightforward storytelling. Quick paced and interesting, you will love and dislike characters, and you're going to savor this book! A historical fiction that brings the past alive with spice and truth. Highly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Every time I picked it up I found myself trying to guess which way the plot would turn today. Was a sad day when I finished it. I'm not generally a fiction fan, but Shabaikai had enough factual background to keep you guessing. I read this book during a recent vacation. It was a good choice.
