A Great Resource and A Great Baby Gift!,
By Jenni (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shabbat Shalom! (Paperback)
This book - along with its accompanying CD - makes a great baby gift for a Jewish family. We received it as a gift for our baby and now give it ourselves. We love having a book that she can grow into and that she will always have as her own special "baby siddur (prayerbook)". I have begun a Friday morning ritual of listening to the CD and reading along in the book with my infant in preparation for Shabbat, I assume that soon this ritual will begin to distinguish Shabbat for her. This set is just a great tool for developing that.

Perfect for reinforcing Jewish children's cultural and religious education,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shabbat Shalom! (Paperback)
This English/Hebrew children's softcover book by Michelle Shapiro Abraham (Director of Education at Temple Sholom, Plainfield, New Jersey) teaches young people about Jewish prayers and traditions. Colorful, instructive illustrations by Ann Koffsky add a friendly touch to this excellent book, perfect for reinforcing Jewish children's cultural and religious education. "Shabbat Shalom" teaches young ones about Shabbat, the special time for Jewish families to come together and rest after the hustle of the week. Pages list traditional blessings in Hebrew letters, Romanized Hebrew, and English translation (such as "We praise You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine"), and a simple singsong rhyme keeps the rhythm of the picturebook flowing. "From the grapes that grow on vines / We fill our Kiddush cups with wine. / We hold our cups high in the air / As we say our joyful prayer. // We bring Shabbat into our home / By blessing wine, / Shabbat Shalom!" Each two-page spread features the English and Hebrew version of a blessing, along with an illuminating color illustration and a simple explanatory rhyme. An excellent teaching tool for any Jewish household, highly recommended.
