I first heard Storyhill as a young freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College during orientation. I experienced a life altering moment. I couldn't understand, but felt like I was hearing a full orchestra or band, I kept looking for other instruments. Turns out I was being touched by something beautiful in a way I had never experienced up until that point. Amazing.
I moved to Spain in 1999 for a term and took their cd's with. They were so emotionally moving to me, I had to give them away. Literally. Unique.
Subsequent Cd's since that time have heralded excellent harmonies and well written lyrics. However, I haven't been pushed or pulled to as great a degree as the earlier (middle) work. However, that has all changed with their latest recording; Shade of the Trees.
I feel quite sure these two gentlemen were born for this one thing. To move people in a way that a good songwriter can. Holding out it's hand, beckoning us to walk through the dark gullies we are afraid to cross. And for those of us who can tune in, we'll be blessed.
Well, I've written all this and said hardly a thing about the content of the album:
Sparse, melodic, beautiful.

After listening to the duo on NPR singing Better Angels, which immediately became a favorite song of mine, I bought the CD! Beautiful harmonies and simple pure acoustic guitars to compliment them! What more can I say, except give them a listen and you too will be hooked!

I picked this CD up just to try something different. I've listened to 3/4 of the CD so far and have NOT found a song that wasn't worth keeping. Beautiful harmony!!!! If you like folk music that has fantastic harmony and puts you in that "mellow" mood, this is the CD of choice!
