Book Description

“Can I take it from your reaction that I have convinced you to forgive me,” Cullen asked seductively pulling away from Grace’s lips, sending a shock wave of pleasure jolting through her. He was so sure and confident in his ability to melt the object of his attention.
“Forgive you? No, Marshal McKinnon, I just wanted you to have a taste of what you can never have.”

In this third installment of The McKinnon Legends, we see Cullen McKinnon, Brother to the Seventh Duke of Seabridge deeply entrenched in a tale of murder, assassination attempts, and the mystery of who is Gray Martin.

Cullen is used to having his way with women. He treats them well and respectfully, not that it matters. Most of these ultra-easy conquests mean nothing to him. The personification of sin itself in a pair of Wranglers, Cullen is well connected socially, politically, and physically. He is all about control when it comes to his professional life. As a U.S. Marshal based out of San Antonio, Texas, he has to be in control. That goes double for his love life and control in that arena is easy. There is zero risk of him loosing his head over a woman, because his heart already belongs to his brother’s wife. And he has certainly come to terms with the fact that Morgan is certainly a woman he can never have, ever. Immortalizing her, he remains comfortable in unrequited love. It is just easier then letting it go.

As a lawman, Cullen is naturally suspicious. When he contracts with Amazing Grace Genealogy Services to locate any record of his long lost nephew, Decklyn McKinnon suspicion raises the longer he works with the company’s representative. Something about Gray Martin peaks his interest. Unable to leave well enough alone, Cullen inadvertently blows Grace’s cover exposing her to the assassin she has been on the run from for the past three years.
Cullen has a decision to make, but is he prepared to let the ghost of Morgan go?

If possible I would give this book a 4.5 - only because of my preference for time travel books to take place previous centuries verses current times. However, I understand that this was necessary since this is the 3rd in the series, Cullen's story and as Cullen (not being a time traveler) is trapped in present day and thus cannot travel back to his birth century in the 1400's. I LOVED the first two books in the series - and they set the stage wonderfully for this 3rd book. If you like time travel romance novels DO NOT miss this series. Although lacking the historical depth of the Outlander series these books still pack the romantic mystical punch. In my reviews I won't waste your time with recapping the story - I believe the author gives you the necessary taste of the novel. Instead I will tell you that right now there is no better bargain (at 99 cents) for a delightful escapism from staid reality than jumping on these initial 3 books in an 8 book series! Thank you Ranay James. Keep writing and this fan will keep reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The McKinnon Legends March 14, 2013

The McKinnon Legends series is a great read.

Loved the way I became involved in the lives of the McKinnon Clan and their struggles.

Thought the story lines were very good and kept me wanting to read more.

The only thing that I didn't like was the typo's - not many but there were some in the Kindle version.

More About the Author

Ranay James moved to a small farm in East Texas along with her husband and two dogs after walking away from the fast paced corporate life in 2012.

Ranay graduated from college majoring in accounting and finance with a minor in business management and law. This is very concrete subject matter as a major. Becoming a romance writer seems a most unlikely path for a woman who spent most of her career managing people and operational practices within the corporate environment.

It all began in 2004 on New Year's Day. Having made a list of things that she wanted to accomplish for the year, she added some items to that list that would push her skill set, and take her out of her comfort zone. Writing a novel was one item that she felt would stretch her abilities the most having no prior training in creative writing. Later that day, Ranay sat down at her computer. Looking at that blank word document, she simply wrote the first thing that came into her mind.

"What were you thinking?" she wrote having remembered the line from a dream she had in a hotel room in Houston, Texas in 2002. Several chapters in, Ranay found her voice as the story began to form. It poured out from a place that she never knew existed. Ranay began to write that day in 2004, and simply never stopped.

The bulk of her work is fiction. A few works are self-help and business aides. (She comes from a corporate background, and she is still a businesswoman, so it does creep in from time-to-time).

Ten years later with eight published works to her name, and nine more completed awaiting publication, Ranay has found a new passion - the love of storytelling and sharing her characters with the world.
