Review

Oozes all the necessary passion of any good romance novel. . . . The romance enthusiast won't be disappointed with this novel that never skimps on passion or story.
--Kirkus Reviews

A must-read murder mystery. . . . This book is excellent from beginning to end and the mixture of mystery and romance will leave the reader wanting more.

BIOGRAPHY

Kim Sanders was born in Smithfield, North Carolina, the middle of three children. Her father owned and managed a small dime store in a tiny town in eastern North Carolina, and her mother was an English teacher. Kim attended the University of North Carolina, earning a degree in Journalism, and later, a law degree from Emory University. She and her husband, Paul, have two children.

IN HER WORDS

My love of fiction began at an early age. At seven, I was hiding a flashlight under the bed sheets, fascinated by the worlds that came to life as I quietly turned the pages. But I didn't really appreciate the extent of the magic until I was ten years old.

One afternoon, my fifth grade class spent an hour in the school library. The librarian read a portion of Fred Gipson's Old Yeller to the group and allowed us to roam freely, pulling books at random. By sheer happenstance, I discovered Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time. This book was my Harry Potter. The alternate universes of the fiction world offered adventures and escapes that were limited only by my own imagination.

My secret love of romance novels began almost six years later, at the age of sixteen. In my awkward teen years, I would spend my beach vacations escaping into the pages of the happily-ever-after, hiding the Fabio-type covers as I read. These books have continued to be my favorite vacation novel, but thankfully have evolved with the times.

I hope that my books will attract readers who enjoy the writings by the same authors I enjoy--Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, Johanna Lindsey, and Heather Graham.

By the way, I did find that happily ever after is not always just a fairy tale. I found it in real life.

I've never lived in the low country, but novelist Kim Sanders made me feel as though I had. Her description of the scenery made me want to visit that part of the country. Sam is the reason I liked this book because she made me see the things she saw and feel her emotional turmoil. There's a lot more to this book than romance. This book keeps you guessing til the very end. The strong characters and the plot are just two of the reasons you want to keep reading. I'm hoping to hear more from this author.

Ms. Sanders hits just the right balance of mystery and romance, serious situations and humor. She has a deft touch with descriptions of both people and scenery, her dialogue is believable, and she managed to write a murder mystery without any gore. I look forward to meeting some of the secondary characters again in her future books, especially the hero's sister Abby. Like some of the other reviewers, I found it hard to believe this was a debut novel. Bravo!Shades of Gray

There are no words for the plot and suspense to this romantic book. Absolutely loved it, this is now a favorite of mine!

I enjoyed this book very much. A romance, but with enough suspense to keep me guessing and interested until the end.

This romantic suspense did keep my interest, so the writing was such the plot moved the story forward, and I wanted to know what happened at the end. The writer did a good job in describing the surroundings and setting of the book so I could picture everything. I didn't buy the book because of its cover. I am not sure what prompted me to get it, probably the story line. I definitely look at book covers and I think this one would be a lot better; this one does not, in my opinion, fit the story. I have to say the title of the book made me think it was going to be similar to another book with a similar title and I was surprised it was nothing like it, which is good.

I have a kindle fire so it is very easy to highlight words or whole sentences where I found problems with the story. I got totally confused between who John and Jim were. It appears to me they are one in the same guy, because I couldn't figure out who came to check on Sam's place and met Maggie in the process and the guy Maggie fell in love with. And there was the guy Abby, Caleb's sister, kissed; was it John or Jim or was there really two different men with those names and I missed it (and if I did, I apologize)? Or did the author forget which name she used for this love interest of Maggie's, and which one Abby kissed, I had to ask myself? In an author's first book, they tend to use the same letter for the first name in the book and it makes it quite confusing. I know, I've done it too.

For a first book, I did enjoy the story line, and it was an enjoyable light read.

This is a C+ book which for some reason has received an A- cumulative rating. Generally I find Amazon ratings reliable, however this book was a disappointment. As a free Kindle download with Amazon Prime I expected a light, romantic beach read, but this is mediocre even for that genre. While Ms. Sanders does a nice job describing Charleston and the barrier islands, the characters are either overly emotional or bland. There is potential in her writing but the undeserved high rating would make me unlikely to read another of her novels.

I found this an easy book to get lost in. This book "sucked me in" from beginning to end. Kim is a talented writer and her type of writing is an easy, enjoyable pace. There is a touch of soft porn but it isn't the focus of her style of writing.

Easy reading and entertainment for a few days. I enjoyed escaping the everyday world and slipping into the story of this book.
