Editorial Reviews

Review

*"No stereotype is too demeaning or above mocking criticism to Connid.  Some of the jokes are fast and sophomoric, while others weave their way brilliantly through the entire series.  All in all, a funny entertaining read!" -- Jack White, Amazon reader

*"Loved this book... Fabulous!  The whole idea is wonderful and it was super funny!"-- Natasha Schmidt, Amazon reader

*"This was too funny... Laughing just thinking about it!"-- LadyP, Amazon reader

More About the Author

Pat Connid has spent the better part of his life avoiding real work.

Now a top-selling humor author (with an inability to simply choose one genre and go with it), the former stage performer, radio personality, and balloon-animal artiste spends his days on a river shantyboat just off the Florida keys in international waters waiting for his visa paperwork to be approved.

In his spare time, Pat Connid likes to write autobiographies in the third person.

I didn't want to like this book, but we don't always get what we want.
Honestly given the name of the series I would never have read this book. I have no desire to read the other "50 Shades ..." books or any other copycat books that are trying to capitalize on the similar sounding name. In fact that is one of only two problems I have with this series of books. The other is that the author uses way too many parenthesis (to tell the reader inside jokes) <-- like that. If you get past these two limitations, you will be thoroughly entertained.

The book is about the misadventures of a guy who accidentally finds a cure for the zombie plague and tries to spread the word. It's funny and sophomoric, but in that good way. Each book in the series is only a few chapters long. I think they were originally released in a serial format and the story flows nearly seamlessly from one book to the next. Some people say things like "I couldn't put it down!"; well I could totally put it down, but I always wanted to pick it back up again. It is lighthearted and doesn't take itself seriously at all.

If you have got the time, check it out.

Having purchased and been bored by the 50 Shades series, I came across the Swordsman Series and was instantly intrigued!! I LOVED the paradies by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, and Pride, Prejudice and Zombies), and hoped this would be similar.... While it isn't graphically sexual, it is more bathroom humor spiced with a little gore.... okay, a bit more than a little.... Still, light-hearted (if you don't take it too seriously) and doesn't make me feel like I am missing something (a la 50 Shades). Quick, fun, gross, and better than a book that reads like one long Penthouse Forum letter......

Comedy/Horror/Erotica? The Swordsman Series has zombies, romance, a former rodeo clown, and Viagra. For your pleasure. Completely raunchy, gory, and hilarious. Fifty Shades of Grey Matter is an original and absurd account of three men staving off the Zombie Bird Flu and (maybe?) saving the world in the process. Yes, with their "swords".

Not for just anyone - this book takes a humorous stab at the undead. True, there are some descriptions that made me wince, but overall I enjoyed the series. They are a quick read and have characters that coax you through the story. This one wouldn't be appropriate for the young'uns, but adults will enjoy the trials of some regular folks faced with impending Zombie-ism.

I borrowed the first book in this series from my library and enjoyed it so much that I got the whole series! It's not classic literature by any stretch of the imagination, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and actually laughed out loud at a couple of points while reading. it really has nothing to do with the more popular 50 shades books, but if you enjoy crude/crass humor along with some zombie killin' than this series insightful your alley!

Fifty Shades of Gray Matter is a series of five, cheeky zombie stories. In fact, they wryly deal with many popular, modern topics like ED medication, pandemics - and well, anything else you can think of. They are cleverly written and pretty funny. I have to admit that the stories were, overall, a little too raunchy for my personal taste, but that doesn't mean I didn't occasionally guffaw. I think these are "guy" stories and I am positive my nephew would love them.

These stories are hilarious. I laughed from start to finish. It may be too violent for some readers, but I got a kick out of it, but then I love this genre.
