Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Nothing is sexier than a sharp mind atop a lean, healthy body. Few foods are able to deliver this promise like kale. She is the ideal plant in many ways: beautiful, versatile, nourishing, and downright delicious.

And these days, she's become a pretty popular dish. Unfortunately, many of kale's admirers have fallen into the same boring routine: she's chopped and served raw, gently sautéed, lightly steamed, or juiced. Kale has been subjected to a lack of imagination—until now.

In Fifty Shades of Kale, you'll discover fifty enticing new ways to enjoy one of Mother Nature's hottest properties. Linger in bed with a luscious Cheddar Kale Omelet; get your hands a little dirty with afternoon quickies like Zucchini and Kale Bites; turn up the heat with Chipotle Flank Steak with Lime, Black Beans, and Kale, or Spicy Mussels with Kale; and surrender to your most forbidden cravings with Chocolate Chip Kale Cookies or Kale and Black Cherry Sorbet.

With fifty mouth-watering recipes for kale-centric breakfasts, starters, mains, cocktails, and desserts, Fifty Shades of Kale is certain to spice up your routine and show you how to experiment in the kitchen, cook yourself sexy, and indulge without guilt.

Satisfaction guaranteed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of Kale September 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I recently discovered quite by accident the amazing powers of kale. In the past few years I'd heard it was like the #1 most important vegetable we could put in our system. In the past few months I've started making kale smoothies almost every morning. I've noticed when I don't have one I don't feel as well and the minute I make one and start sipping, I feel better. Add to that, I've had alopecia for the past 10 years which got particularly inflamed last year during a cancer treatment. These kale smoothies I believe have single handedly helped my once delightfully think and gorgeous hair to grow back at exponential speed. I can't wait to try more of these recipes and get even more kale into my body. I'm convinced and I know this Queen/Goddess of Kale has so much to teach me in a quick but thorough style. I'm very grateful to have this book in my hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotic Recipes? September 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What an absolute find!

This very well researched recipe book will not only help you create some stunning delights with Kale, but it will have you in stitches too. Very creatively written!

The book is well constructed, and extremely informative. Dr. Drew has really injected a lot of very insightful info into this book on the many benefits of eating Kale.

As a kid who hated his spinach, I have grown in a man who finally understands the reasons why my mom would always tell me to "eat your greens..."

With this book, I now have so many great ways to add mass amounts of goodness into my body.

5.0 out of 5 stars A laugh-out-loud cookbook. Who knew? September 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is hilarious, and definitely the most nutritious 50 Shades parody out there. The introductions to the book and to the individual recipes are written like a an erotic prose poem. Anyway, kale always seemed so virtuous but I never know what to do with it. Well, guess that problem is solved. Recipes look awesome. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this book! October 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a really, really great book! It's funny, entertaining, informative and the recipes look and sound delicious!I can't wait to try the Dark Cocoa Delight made with kale! Yeah, KALE! Who knew?

It's one of the first recipe books that I've come across that actually called for ingredients that I already had on hand and didn't have to 'special order' some crazy exotic things I've never heard of!

I was able to 'borrow' the book on my kindle Cloud as I have done with quite a few other books but this is one book I will order in the actual book form.

Get it! You will love it!

As a nutrition student, I'm a huge fan of kale and I'm always on the lookout for new ways to prepare this veggie. This book has so many great recipes and useful tips! I also love the additional bits of nutritional information that accompany each recipe. It raises your dietary awareness of not only kale but also a variety of foods. Thanks for the fun and informative read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A tasty parody. October 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
OK, the title is what got me on this (and the funny cover), but I also wanted to check it out because I am a big fan of kale, though I have never been much of a cook, especially with vegetables. The most amazing thing I can do with kale is make rudimentary kale chips, but I've been wanting to find more ways to make kale in creative and delicious ways--I recently started eating more along the way of the paleo diet, so that means lots of veggies. You have to get inventive after the first few meals!

Anyway, this book was basically the answer to my prayers. You can incorporate kale (deliciously) in to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or drinks, or even desserts! There are even some trivia facts in the book, which is great if you are a geek who loves random knowledge, like me. My favorite treat so far has been the kale and black cherry sorbet, but I am eager to try the rest of these recipes! (And, by the way, this is a GREAT way to sneak kale to kids--deception and health! Devilishly delicious!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A "feel good about myself" review September 29, 2012
By Dana
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just read the fun and enlightening book. My husband and I live "in the fast lane" and have little time left over in the day but we try to eat in a healthy way. He has recently gotten involved in gardening, and recently we raised a few chickens to have farm fresh, free range eggs - which are definitely better! The recipes provided in the book seem fun and easy and when I eat the end result I expect to feel better about myself! We are looking forward to trying them...especially the egg-containing ones as we are excited with our new adventure with our friendly little "egg-layers"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cook book, with a sense of humor September 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you know kale's good for you, but don't have a clue how to use it, this is the book for you. With tongue firmly in cheek, the authors take you through terrific ways to boil, saute, bake and otherwise prep kale. And they know what they are talking about. Drew Ramsey is a psychiatrist who specializes in "brain food," foods for which there is scientific proof that they benefit a healthy brain. So have some fun, buy the book and start cooking.
