Virtuosity in obscurity, April 21, 2003

I found this album in a salvage store. The cover is misleading...it suggests samba elevator music...this is anything but. Lubambo and Rubello apparently flew in to NY and two days later recorded this masterpiece of duet playing. The recording as with most Chesky product is crisp clear and under-produced (a clear positive when recording acoustic instruments!)
It reminds me of Al Di Meola's "Ciel De Terra" but with a much more rooted brazilian texture. These players are masterful and each track leaps from the speakers. It's like having them in your living room. It's good from start to finish.
